When I use the key in steam for activating, Steam tells me it's a German key (It says it's a DE key which is short for Deutchland aka. Germany)

Oh, I thought you bought L4D. I don't remember if it was the same for me (that message saying that the cd key is from DE). At the end of Steam activation you got that message ? (after EULA)
Strange.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is currently £2.99 for this weekend. It normally sells for £8.99.
If you like your realistic infantry and tank combat games you probably already own this ( ), but if you don't now is as good a time as any as it has just been updated with STEAM achievements and a new official map. For me the tank combat is the highlight; you will find simulators are much more realistic naturally - but RO gets a balance between realism, enjoyment and atmosphere that makes it extremely playable.

Well I just tryed....
You can go through checkout and games will show up and you can add them BUT
Once you pay it will either:
1. Error cause paypal account will let them know that its not a US account. Which is what it did
2. If you pay direct with cc then it will error cause you need to put in a US address otherwise it will show Euro at checkout again. And durig purchase your cc address wont match the one in steam.
Either way its not possible...
So if your serious then please share how you do this without steam some how sensing that the buying is not US

The only way to defeat that is if you're out of your region. As a Canadian overseas I can remote desktop to a family members computer and login to their steam account and gift myself a game using my paypal or my canadian CC. I can't use a proxy to hit an american server because it doesn't match. Unless you somehow have an american paypal account or an american CC you can't do that.

What kind of internet does Red Orchestra need? I've got a 384kbps (real crappy, I know) connection and was wondering if it was worth buying. And what kind of pings is this playable at? Like most other shooters are quite unplayable at pings above 150 in my experience.

Agreed, above 150 is unplayable. However latency is not bandwidth, and I wouldn't think RO requires much bandwidth, just the same as other multiplay shooters. There are a couple well populated servers in EU and US where my ping hits low 40'ies. If you're interested in that sort of realism stuff (without squad tactics) you shouldn't miss out on the weekend offer. If there are no good servers for you now, there will be whenever you move/upgrade.

I honestly couldn't tell you. It's the UT2004 engine if that helps.

Steam prices are ridiculus, I payed like 40% more for FO3 over Steam than if i had bought it from a store (including shipping) BUT i have to admit that it's really nice that you don't need to look for the DVD everytime you want to play or reinstall it, too bad it seems to update using Windows Live and not via Steam (which is much much nicer than Win Live).

Many inexpensive (and some free) indie games added to the store today. The Path, Caster, Space Giraffe, etc.
Correcting people since 2007 even if they're not wrong.
