so if i have one of these babys does it mean i can download a blueray movie and instead of buying a blueray burner and player i can simply throw it on an ex hard drive and watch on my hdtv with no difference in quality?
for a couple of years now you can download BluRay rips in x264 They might not be exact same quality as BR themselves, but pretty close (also range in size from 4-9 GB instead of the 20-30 of a BluRay).
That is a decent solution, but a bit simplistic. Still better to get a HTPC imo ... I have 2 external HDs (each 500GB) hooked up to mine, 1 internal drive (250GB) and then another 3 HDs in another computer on the network (660 GB) that are full of bluray rips. Plus you can add an actual BluRay drive to the HTPC and play any rips you've burned to a dvdr. And also you have a fully functioning computer in your living room that comes in handy at times.
Also, I'm not sure if it has any built in audio decoders (DD, DTS, etc.) so if not you need to make sure you're receiver can decode them.
The problem with these players (WDTV, PCH, etc) is they only play L4.1 material, and while this is good enough for 720p files (not always though), most quality 1080p releases (quality = not made by scene) use L5.1, so that means automatic no-no on such a player.
Isn't 3450 a mid-range? Because for me, low-range is really only on-board and nV 5200/6200, etc. Also does the 3450 have h264 acceleration? If it does, then it's a great catch.
But that e2160 is a fucking gold, I bought it for my mom's PC and tryed for the kicks playing Sin City 1080p Well it played it like a champ!
i got this 8500GT 1gig ram for 10 euro and it supports hardware acceleration
got it cheap coz fan was busted, but i had my old zalman VF700-CU and decided to install on it, not only it fit perfectly but i also overclocked the card up to 50%
i know it's crap but i was able to play some games on low/medium @1440x900

yeah, but the 3450 has HDMI out combining both video and audio
Receivers? Good receivers, as anything good, can cost a lot of money. But I don't think there's any point in that if you are going to use PC speakers. You need very high-end equipment to enjoy these uncompressed LPCM audio tracks.
