no offence taken, as you see i didnt straight out call shenanigans because u just never know i just said i remain skeptical...think scully Wink

Hopefully this game will pull me off of COD4 and BF:BC i'm loving the idea of a dynamic game where the gametypes change within the levels should be great to see it in action. As long as they support the game with reasonably priced DLC and i dont mean $15 for two maps or any of that bullshit or $5 for a gun could be cool. The only worrying thing is the reported controller lag, i guess in a few hours when we get our hands on the demo we'll see.

Ok i played the demo, i have never played killzone 1 so i am new to the franchise.
First of all the demo is fucking short (10mins tops), Second the default difficulty of trooper (you can select only 1 in the demo) is to damn easy.
I dont like the controls as well, they react slow and the level in the demo is just shoot this barrel and shoot that barrel and the enemy's are dead, i am not that impressed as you can see, i hope the full version is better than this.

no, same demo

Some interesting points, first the aiming i feel is spot on, movement is smooth and precise (for me). Its not a twitch shooter or COD4, feels more like firing a proper gun in a way ie the weapon has weight and inertia and "feels" like your moving a heavy bit of kit rather than a stick. Tried with the default scheme at first and got used to it, but prefeer alt 2 with zoom toggle off. Just loved the way you can stick a bead on a Helghast and pop his helmet off first (lol) then head shot, so much better than say Res2 super aim assit or COD4 for that. The game play is different to some FPS's its more like survey area, find cover shoot from cover see helghast move find new cover etc etc, not good being in the open cant run and gun, well you can but die quickly (well i do). Its an amazing looking game, so much going on, so much atmosphere and the sound is fantastic (5.1) all in all its pretty awesome! In one run i just stood about and watched the AI fight itself, hearing team mates shout to you to use the healing ray is a bit annoying at times, shame they dont do it for you! Also forcing it into 1080P/I and i dont see it drop frames or anything, glad much of the loading has been decreased in the retail/latest review code. I just cant wait to play the full game

I just played the demo and i have to say it: "THIS GAME IS FUCKING AMAZING!".

The demo was too short, but that's alright. I dont want them to spoil too much from the SP. I have to pre-order it this weekend at amazon.co.uk because it'll cost me 72 Euros if i order it from Amazon.de and just 34 Euros from Amazon UK.

the graphics are really good, you can see where they sacrificed some textures tho but the sum of its parts graphically add up to make the overall experience pretty eye popping, quite easily some of the best lighting in a game.

Yea the RSX chip holds up well here, but dont forget the way the PS3 is designed some graphics functions can be offloaded to the CELLs SPU's freeing headroom for the RSX to perform tasks its better suited to. (remeber originally it was thought the Cell could do everything but they never got it right....that was when they contracted nvidia), also its a testement to what OGL ES 2.0 can do i wish we'd see more games on PC using it.

The controls, i can see if i were a reviewer this taking a point off, now this is all personal preference some people dont mind the slower feel, but as far as console shooters go i always thought BF:BC and COD4 had it down perfectly as far as sensitivity goes, there is some latent feel to the controls. I'm sure of the course of the 10 hour campaign and the endless hours of multi i'm going to adapt to it, but its a small complaint about an otherwise great experience. Like the knife being selected on the dpad.....means i have to take my finger off of the stick which when you think about it defeats the purpose of the knife...quick close quaters kill.

A plus is the grenade cooking tho, nice simple no counting to 3 just hold watch the lights and throw.

Lastly i dont know if anyone else played this in 7.1 but the sound...wow, up until now id honestly state that BF:BC had the best in game sound but this is something else its mixed so darn well really immersive.

Oh yea and the AI...sneaky bastards i noticed a coupla really neat things one guy is shooting at me drawing my attention, in my peripheral vision i notice a helgast pop up look at me see i was aiming at someone else and sneak off to the side to flank me, very cool indeed. And they 'nade the fuck out of you when ur behind cover to make you keep moving

And thats my impressions

[Update] Ok played thru the demo a couple more times now, getting used to the sensitivity so on the third run thru i was pulling off those head shots, so maybe its more of an adjustment thing to the slower feel and not an all out design flaw

Well the graphics, or at least the artistry of it all is amazing to say the least. That's the first thing you notice. The second thing you notice is just how short the damn thing is. I mean I think I spent less time playing it then I did downloading, and I played it through a couple of times. Still, playing it repeatedly does allow you to get to know the AI and it's nice to see they aren't static target practice. They actually fan out, respond and act differently each time which definitely adds to the experience.

As far as the general gameplay is concerned; it looks to be an incredibly solid generic FPS. Yes, unfortunately rather generic but that doesn't diminish how enjoyable it is to play.

I tend to agree with this. The controls feel unresponcive - who cares if its more like real life - this game is hardly based on fact. The demo hasn't really wowed me, and the graphics are probably on par with GOW2, but certainly not better. Maybe slightly worse...

I'm considering cancelling my pre-order... meh fuck it i got a good price lol

Don't forget that what we are currently playing is nothing more than a tutorial, an extremely small segment of the opening. The full game will have extensive multiplayer options in the form of built in clan functions, tournaments, COD4 style experience and class creation, not to mention bots for single and multiplayer. By all accounts it's the multiplayer that we will be playing the most when it's all said and done, so I really wouldn't take too much negative from the demo.

It's also possible with the complaining that they will look at the control scheme and try to refine it. I have to say; for my first FPS console in such a long time I'm not sure what all the ruckus is about, it felt second nature to me after 10 minutes.

Well this game looks great and fells great. I like the AI and how the weapons react . But what i dislike is the controls. Especially if you have to turn around. It's to slow.

God, this is a good game. Not the massive leap in GFX I expected, but some good Wow moments like the explosions at times, but the water is nowhere near as nice as say Far Cry 2 or Tomb Raider perhaps. The controls are adequate, I'd like to see them let you map the buttons, also I feel that the dualshock is nowhere near as suited to FPS as the 360 pad, does anyone know of a conversion device?

On the whole, I think this will be a monster hit, I have ordered it and I don't BUY many games these days.

Bring it on.....

Sorry, but why show off the game with a tutorial? I think alot of people are going to be dissapointed... I mean, people aren't stupid. They're either shooting themselves in the nose to spite their face, or their game really isn't as good as people are hoping for...

Sorry bigboy177 - I don't think is a fair remark. Yes, there ARE alot of PS3 haters out there - but I dont think anyone in this thread can be classed as a PS3 hater. We all obv. own a PS3, and found it a disspointing experience. Anyone that has spent alot of time with 360 FPS games like GOW2 will know that visually, this game isn't really the great leap they claimed it would be. That, or they've fuxked the demo up and indeed it doesn't truely represent the full game (in which case, they're idiots).

I meant PS3 haters in general and comments in general, not just here. And it's always better to see the game in question through your own eyes. No matter what the game is. That's the main thing I advised to GeorgeIvanovich.

The demo code is just one small part of the game, so you can't show all the visuals in it... Better wait for the full version. I don't think that Gears of War 2 would look so great during a 10 minute preview. It looks very good, but mostly because of some scenes, many locations look like taken from the first part.

Main complaints are controls, generic nature of the game and the shortness of the demo. I really don't think these are something to get your panties in a twist over. If you're not feeling it, cancel your pre-order and rest easy as nobody is forcing you to buy the game.

Someone from Sony/GG comments on the controls;

Quote:
I have been looking at this with one of our Game Designers and we are starting to come to the conclusion that this is down primarily to the design decision to make the game weightier. Killzone 2 is not a 'twitchy' shooter like some of you might be (rightfully) accustomed to and we think it might simply be down to some growing pains on some people's behalf. In this demo we also did not add the section that comes before this where a player would naturally climatize to the controls and have simply dumped you on Corinth River, so I think a lot of these complaints will be negated by the players natural progression through the full game.

So at this moment we are not considering it a bug, or anything that needs to be patched.
We do suggest however not having the sensitivity on full as this can make the appearence of a delay seem more aggressively. Work your way up the sensitivity scale slowly as you become more accustomed to the game.

Also seeing if there are any post-processing settings on your TV you could shut off without negating the visual quality of the game or if you have a 'Gaming' setting to try that as few TVs are set up as standard for gaming and often require some tweaking.

This does not mean we are going to pull a blanket over our heads and stop evaluating this and looking into it and allowing you guys an adjustment period and I will pick this up with some coders on Monday as well to see what they say.

What i am however interested in, what FPS games have you just recently or are playing currently. The majority of people on here seem to not have any issues adjusting and we think it might simply down to a certain mindset more than anything, which is of course of interest to us too from a playability standpoint.
