i agree for mp3's a library is mandatory. how the hell do you browse efficiently without a media library which is capable of applying filters based on mp3 tag values?

in fact music lovers without a library are the uber n00bs

hey fellas,
i just installed vista64 and am wondering if WMP11 is 64bit
There are both versions, 32 and 64-bit.

Putting aside ffdshow, a codec pack that used to work fine with both versions of wmp or with media center x64 is "Vista Codecs" and its x64 addon:

Maybe, just maybe this helps:
Does the new wmp use EVR as its Video Renderrer? If it does you may need to have Aero running so it wont tear.

Not necessary really, I used to watch movies on my laptop with Aero disabled (when on battery) and it had no tearing. Smile

To the OP, what files were you trying to play exactly? AVI? MKV?

Lol...

I have my mp3's in the following structure:

[AMBIENT-FOLK-ELECTRONIC-INDUSTRIAL]
Alphabetical list of bands
Albums

[BLACK METAL]
Alphabetical list of bands
Albums

etc.etc.

I usually just add a genre to winamp and then just go to the band and album I want to listen to and press play. Sorting your stuff right on the HD makes a library unnecessary (unless you have tons of V/A albums where you want to search for a particular artist, something I don't have).

UPDATE: There is one more step required to complete the transition to a full x64 Media Player.

Go into the registy and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\wmplayer.exe

And set the Values as follows:

(Default) - "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"
Path - %ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player

Include the quotes on the value for (Default).
