How much do you like console gaming? |
Love it. I'll never buy a PC for gaming. A console is all I want. |

Not trying to be a fanboy here, but atleast with Live you get what you pay for. The PS3 Home thing can't come nowhere near Live, I have experience with both. Unless something has drastically changed these last two months, you get what you pay for with PS3 Home, which is not much.

I bought PS2 slim this summer (my second PS2) and am catching up on 2-3 year old PS2 games. Also planning on buying X360 in a month or so (liteon firmware is gonna be released soon yay).
PC was, is and always will be my #1 gaming platform, because I am a huge multiplayer gaming fan. It's nice to sit and relax while playing console games with a controller, but when I play on a PC I feel like at home, PC is where a proper gaming is done for me.

PlayStation Home is a separate application like PlayStation Life, and as you say they are completely free and not a part of some paid for service. Most of the problems people have with connectivity are often hardware related - such as cheap or incompatible routers. You can't rule out the ISP throttling your connection during peak hours and starving the PS3 of sufficient bandwidth either, which is a very common act in the UK they call 'traffic management'. It could even be they aren't getting a good enough signal to the wireless receiver. All of these things, and more, can impair performance online.
For what you get, and for what you pay - the PS3 online service is fine. It works, it does what you ask of it and you don't pay a cent. XBOX Live may well be better, I'm sure it is, but that's to be expected - hundreds of thousands of people are helping to pay for its upkeep and development.

I am now in the position where I say: I´ll buy a new computer when the prices drop a little bit. But then it happens and I go: I´ll buy a new computer when the prices drop. I´m stuck in the never ending circle of new hardware, waiting for their prices to drop.
Probably will get a new computer next year though. With them Blizzard games comming out and all. Also to get some more demanding apps to run.
In the meantime I´m more than satisfied with my 360. Plenty good games and more around the corner. Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5. Also GTA4 exp pack. Sweet.

Umm.. eh... what?
Where did "per month" come into it? You can get 12month sub cards for $35-45. That's $3.50 to $4.50 a month |
oh, i thought it was per month. my bad.
Still, fuck paying to play online when I have a computer and a ps3 (which is free to play online). I had some great times with COD4 online with my PS3.

exactly. as long as you enjoy whatever system, who cares. the differences between 360 and PS3 are very minimal.
I just prefer my PS3 ya know?
And the one big draw back for me is paying for Live....its a rip off imo.
Tho next time a good SP game comes out for the 360 and PS3, I will buy it for the 360 and see. Worst case is if I dont like it, I'll go buy it for the PS3.
U guys have convinced me the Xbox isnt that bad...well done
But you'll never convince me about Live. Never. I think thats a Microsoft scam. Like they cant afford to offer it for free....

When they upgrade directx, I'll get another video card (and cpu/mobo/ram)...hopefully that happens before Diablo 3 |

oh c'mon, dx10 is a failure...especially when compared to dx9's entrance. Hopefully they'll get it right with dx11 since it's built on the same API.

If you open a new xbox account (gamertag) every month, LIVE is for free, since you get one free month with a new subscription. Problem solved.
Many games comes with a free month cupon (sp?) as well. Considering you buy many of your games. |
Uh oh. 3-5 times that is, thats how it was for me and a friend when we thought we where in freebie heaven! Because we never cared for gamerpoints and all that, so creating a new acc. every month was OK. But, nope. After a couple of new accounts it was pay-time.

Maybe the reason dx10 didn't quite catch up is just that consoles don't support it. |
If the technology had advanced, developers would use dx10 more, as they did with dx8 and dx9. dx10 and resource-hog vista are to blame for much of the PC's problems in the past few years, it's hard to deny.
Just check out the dx10 support list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_10_support
There's less than 20 games in 3 years!!! And only a handful to come
As for crysis, on very high settings dx9 and dx10 look practically the same, and the performance is better in dx9:
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6182140/index.html?sid=6182140&part=rss&subj=6182140 |
I think the XBOX supports some elements of DX10, and newer games are showing speed increases but the problem for me is why upgrade to something that has a list of incompatible software and simultaneously suffers from a proportional performance decrease (and no; disabling everything that makes Vista, Vista is not a solution. I could make XP faster that way).
Developers might well want to use DX10, maybe someone here knows, but the fact is if you look at the statistics the uptake still isn't there. Sure it might be for the moms and dads on their laptop, but not the gamer demographic who are going to actually buy your games.

Bah.. the whole "XP performs billions of times faster than Vista" is a goddamned fallacy. I've been using Vista since it came out and I've personally benched the results between gaming on XP and gaming on Vista - numerous times. They're both identical for the most part, with Vista edging out performance-wise in some games.
