As the title says. When I boot up my PC, the fan on the 4870x2 whirls away really loud and I see my monitor (Samsung 24") show "Digital, Analog" (indication that its searching for input). The rest of the PC powers up cause I can see that my G15 and G9 have the lights and stuff, but the screen is black.

Ok, so I hold in the power button and reboot, sometimes the same thing happens all over, or the fan on the 4870x2 goes loud for a bit and then settles to a normal level and the boot up screen starts...like it should be.

I did some searching on ATI's forum and it seems that this is a pretty common prob, but so far I have not found any solution.

Do any of you guys with 48XX cards experience something similar?.

Running the latest 8.9 CCC
had the same prob with the 8.8 CCC

EDIT:Just tried something

Some guys says that by ticking "Reduce DVI Frequency" in the CCC, the problem goes away. I just rebooted and she started up as she should...lets see if it hold up but.

Hm, no, I don't have this problem... The thing where the fan goes 100% for 50ms and then drops to 13% during boot is normal.

Let's see the most common problem, do you have an on-board video 'card'?

Not that I know of Smile...Rampage Formula don't have that as far as I know...or?...

EDIT:Had to do another reboot, and she booted up just fine. Maybe the "Reduce DVI Frequency" did fix it. Will report back if something comes up.

Never got this prob myself either. Of course the fan kicks up when starting(and kinda once in awhile at random times, heh, spooked me at first) but never get no signal when booting..

You can read about it here
FIX for blank screen with ATI 4000 cards

Problem is there is no real fix for it...yet.

EDIT: Seems that ATI are aware of it and have put the brain squad on the prob. I guess I will have to wait for future driver updates Sad.

The card works, but its just annoying to have to do 3-4 boots before the PC starts up. And yea, lets hope for a quick fix for this.

Could be that its my monitor, doubt it but. Getting a 30" for Xmas, maybe the prob will go away then .

Hey, i have the same problem! But with my 8800GT Confused

It powers up, the 8800GT fan is spining at max speed, and if it boots correctly, it slows down and all is fine.

But just now, i had to reboot like four times before it worked. It gets stuck at 100% fan speed and i get no signal to my LCD..

And it happens almost every damn time now, for atleast the last month..

Yes, this happens on my mom's PC (with my old 6600GT), but I always thought it was because of the on-board shit they have there, that cannot be switched off in the BIOS. And indeed when this happens, and I move the cable from the 6600GT to the integrated, I see a picture.

Ah ok, cheers. I guess its back to the waiting line then Smile.

Actually, just came home here, only needed 2 boots this time .
But it seem to happen only when cold booting. When I install stuff and need to reboot this never happen, not that it matters, but there it is.

Reducing DVI frequency will only take effect once the OS and drivers are loaded. It sounds like you cannot see the PC post so clicking that option won't do anything. I think this issue has to do with specific monitors tied with certain graphics cards. Same thing can potentially happen when your monitor shuts off after a certain time period, getting it out sleep = screen in standby mode with no input detected.

I use to get it on my Samsung 204B with a 1900XT a long time ago and there was never a solution. I RMA'd the card and the replacement never did it.

A long time ago at work I solved this on a Dell with a 7800GTX by replacing the power supply. It would occasionally stick at 100% fan speed on boot with no signal and also never come out of sleep. As soon as I swapped PSU's it went away.

I'm not sure about your problem though. Good luck.

Hm, yea. I really thought this crap would stop after I got my Dell 30" yesterday. The only "crappy" fix for this seems to be "use an VGA connector/adaptor"...NEVER! I say .

for me a new mobo/psu fixed the problem.

mobo has a broken pci e slot for sure for whatever reason

psu it was a hit and miss situation like you have now

try playing with both, if you dont have a spare mobo try it with the sons pc maybe.

also take everything apart , put it back together piece by piece , put your rig on its side so the card doesnt weigh down too much on your pci e slot , which might have damaged my first mobo

Your theory scares me big time. The fracking work to disassemble the mobo (water blocks and crap) etc. I wrote the tech guys from Club3D (gracard vendor). Will wait and see what they say, should have a response on Monday or so.

Read it on a forum...now where is another matter, was searching my ass off. I will see if i can sniff it up.

I had this problem last week when I built my system. The only thing from this thread that has worked for me was disabling the USB legacy support in my BIOS. After a week everything is running pretty good.

Asus P5Q-E and Saphire 4870

But I read that it work for some and for some not. Anyway tried it out and for me it seem to work, now she boots up every time...for now .p.

Only drawback is that I don't have keyboard suport in case I want to start in safemode (selection...Safemode, Safemode with Network etc). I guess if and when I need to go in to safe mode (cleaning ATI Driver for example) I have to change it back in BIOS and then reboot.
