|
 |
Ok...so far i've almost put together a water cooling system, i am going to use compression fitting's, but when it come's to selecting fitting's of the cpu, gpu and radiator, it has option's of 6/8mm and 8/10mm compression fitting's, i'm going to be using 1/2" 3/4"OD tygon tubing, what i'm asking is, will 6/8 or 8/10 fitting be suitable?
Quick other question, can i get 1/2" barb fitting, and just unscrew the 1/2" barb on the cpu and gpu block, also the radiator and replace with 1/2" compression fitting's.
If i could get answer's for both, it's would be incredibly appreciated.
Thank's in advance.

I am not sure I get this.
You want to use a 1/2 tubing on a 8/10mm fitting???
Normally you would use 8/10mm tubing with a 8/10 fitting...or?
1/2" has 13mm inner diameter and 19mm outer diameter and will never fit 8/10mm
What you need is something like these barb fittings

The only compression fitting I can find for 1/2 tubing is this one

But be sure to check that your blocks has G1/4 threads (see comment on your second question below)
For the second question.
Are you sure that the barbs on the blocks are 1/2?
Here in Germany most blocks comes with 1/4 threads.
Or did I misunderstand you?.

First question answered.
Second question i'll refine, basically i want to replace the 1/2" Barb(G1/4)thread's with 1/2"(G1/4)thread Compression fitting's, unscew the cpu/gpu original barb's and replace with compression's basically, same with the radiator, if that make's a little better sense.
By the way thank you for the answer's so far, you guy's truely are good people when it come's to technical asistance.

I see no problem in replacing the Barbs to Compression fittings.
What rad+pump do you have?, and will you only cool the CPU/GPU, not the NB/SB?
Will you go for an internal solution or have your rad on the outside?
Asking cause I have my 360 rad mounted on the back of the case. had it internally in the top of the case before, but after i went for an external solution the temps dropped by probably 10 degrees.
Now my CPU (E8500@4Ghz) idles at around 27-28c, mobo+NB/SB around 37-38c.
I will probably put my 4870x2 under water as well, but need a bigger case as I would like to have that in a second loop due to heat from the 4870x2.

All looks pretty ok to me. My only reservation is the GPU block from Zalman, I know the do excellent Air coolers but have no idea how they do with water cooling stuff. Personally i would look at "Aquacomputer (German)" or "EK".
No big deal, just i have no insight as to how good the Zalman actually is.
And are you building 2 loops? You show a 260 and a 360 rad there.
Anyho, looks like a good system.

Was in debate at first about the rad's, but i'll go with the 360 ext i think, but i'm still having trouble finding an adequate GPU block, i looked at the aqua one you suggested, i loved the design of the water block, but it's g1/8, so i'm looking at other possibilitie's before i make my final choice of VGA block.
Cheer's Capt.Cox
EDIT: http://watercooled-pcs.co.uk/en/swiftech-obsidian-waterblock-for-8800gt-gts-g92-and-9800gtx.html check that out Cox, see what you think.

Thought i'd put this in a seperate post,
Cox, been looking at x2 rad setup, 1 setup dedicated to the GPU so when i SLI it has a dedicated water, secondly i think i've found a perfect GPU block, check it out,
http://www.over-clock.co.uk/acatalog/danger_den_nv8800gts_waterblock.html
I imagine it has fitting's for both 640MB and G92, but i only need the 640MB fitting's.

Yup, Danger Den is also a good choice!.
And I would sort of recommend to separate GPU and CPU (Especially if you in the future decide to cool SB/NB etc).
Both CPU and GPU run very hot, so in order to avoid dispersion form one or the other go x2 on the rad set up.
Especially true if you run a 4870/4870x2 for example, those run extremely warm.
