Hi all, today i woke up around 6am to see that someone has been having fun in my house. Basically we were shocked, thanks god no major loses. 2 laptops were stolen, although they couldn't find the chargers hehe. My bank card and my car keys. My friend drives bmw x5 and always keeps the cas keys with him. I drive MG ZR and keep the keys in my coat. I'm so lucky because i had to park my car somewhere else, because we had visitors, so i couldn't park at the front of the house. And later on, I couldn't be bothered to to move my car.

They have taken my car keys thinking it's the one for x5, and not bothered searching for my car. I normally park next to it, but last night i don't know why, didn't move my car, and i'm so glad i left it where it is now. Now i'm going to have to pay £160 to get it reprogrammed and get a new key Sad I had all my documents and cards in my car. So everyone, please make sure you lock your doors, especially Christmas is upon us, so thieves know that people buy valuable stuff.

Got my new keys for the car, had to pay £160 Sad The police came, and haven't done jack shit. They didn't take no finger prints etc. Only wrote a report of what happened. I work in a Cash Converter (Where people sell their unwanted goods) It will be so funny if they try to sell my laptop back to me Smile I would be like, oh wait thats a very good laptop, I'll give you £300 for it, let me test it, and keep him busy and call the police. Another thing, get yourself a dummy security camera, it will save you alot of hadache. I'm going work now Sad

Well I've been robbed twice. Both times clean job in terms of home entertainment (tv, radio etc).
First time cops did basically nothing.
Second time the fuckers (burglars) even had time to make coffee and eat sandwiches @ our neighbours house (I live in a block of flats). Second time the cops also didn't want to do much but thanks to my relative ( a higher level cop) they did pretty much everything they could.

Sadly the fuckers werent caught. I miss my tv most Sad It was a wild thing (I think it could have been Samsung, but I'm not sure) with a subwoofer (yeah, a sub). I think it was pretty unique at that time. It all happened about 8 years ago.

No good of keeping the doors locked. Its amazing how easy it is to break the lock or through the door.
Now we have a goddamn metal security door.

I know a lot of mortgages here are conditional upon having contents insurance, but I guess it's all dependent on where you live (property crimes are fairly low in Toronto). Also if you're a renter (like me), contents insurance is fairly cheap (we pay ~$15/month for $35,000 worth of coverage with a $500 deductible).

Well, 26 years ago, your parents shared a passionate night. Nine months later you were born on American soil in a hospital. You went to American school. You learned American history. You even got yourself an American girlfriend. Need I be the one to write your biography? You should know you're an American. You even voted!!

ok, he's an american, but that doesn't give you the right to stereotype like that.
he might be a long-haired middle-aged hippie, still fighting the establishment and living off his herb garden.
don't go around calling people voters. some might feel offended Wink

It reminds me of that Monty Python scene where some guy wanted to report a burglary. Laughing

I guess being robbed sucks. Fortunately, never happened to me yet but it's never too late I guess. Especially where I live...

yeah, it does suck.
if the material loss ain't big enough to upset you, then the shock that you get from realizing what happened will definitely do the trick. it takes a while 'til your mind accepts that someone was actually in your home, stealing your laptops.
it's a very unpleasant privacy violation and i guess that someone more sensitive could stop feeling comfortable/safe in his own home as a result of smth like this.

buy an attack dog, SirCez Wink

Sorry to hear you were robbed.

My parents were robbed awhile back. They cleared the house in 5 mins or less. It was really bad for my sister because she was in uni at the time and they took her computer and all the papers she wrote were on it and had to be handed in in 3 days or less. She took the police report to the school and they gave her an extention. She was devestated. It was embarrasing for her as well, they found her birthcontrol too. They didn't take a few joints she had rolled tho. She was "now they think I am some pot smoking slut, mothfuckers!" Now the house is on lockdown all the time. You can't even get outta the house without the keys now. It is actually quite dangerous if there is a fire because the fire dept can't get to you. All the windows have bars as well.

Same here, we now make sure everysingle door and window is locked, and personally i don't feel safe when i goto sleep. It's not that I'm scared, it's the idea of someone breaking into your house while your asleep. Does anyone know if it's legal to keep a Pellet Gun in your house in the UK? I know it's illegal to carry one in public places, but now sure if it can be used as a self defense. Just thought about it now actually.
