It looks great, but in this day and age, especially with such CPU and GPUs, you really want to put 4GB in there.

Does x38 board support SLI? I think I read only x48 and upwards will support it.

my only complaint is the PSU. I wouldn't buy a thermaltake PSU or any other than PC Power & Cooling.

Only company I know that rates their wattage how their supposed to. That 1200 watts they advertise you'll NEVER see unless your system was turned off.

PC Power rates their at like 60C heated up.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703003&Tpk=pc%20power%20%26%20cooling

this one @ 50C, that 1000K will be mroe than enough for years.

I'm still on my 510 watt from then using 4HD's (one external) 8800GT, 2x1024, amd x2 4400, sound audigy zs 2 platnium, LG's dvd, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray dvd reader combo.

That much wattage is over rated as it is. These PSU's also come with a 5 year warranty if not more now days.

Aren't those QX processors mainly for hardcore overclockers, though (and fucking expensive at that, even if money isn't an issue for your dad)? I mean no offense or anything, but since you're asking about the parts here, I doubt you need it. I'd get a Q9550 or alternatively one of the i7 processors & compatible mobo, since you have DDR3 memory there, too.

Just get the highest end Core 2 Duo if your going to do gaming, having a quad isn't going to benefit much.

Hehe here we go again Very Happy

Might as well get a quadcore since he's not the one paying, no? They can do anything the dualcores can.

I'm just saying, why spend the money on the extra cores you'll barely use. If he's into encoding/decoding etc then be all for it. But if it's just gaming, the extra money is worthless.

BTW, about the PSU, I recommend OCZ and Antec PSUs, they are better than PCP&C IMO.

Well if you look at the original list his dad had given him, he doesn't seem very price-conscious. And granted, even though the current support for quadcores is pretty pathetic in games, quadcore is still more future-proof. Yeah you can make the argument how by the time they become relevant/needed for gaming, i7 has matured enough to be the best choice - but that's what it's always about. Choices, choices.

That would hold true if he was paying for it himself but since it's his dad who is paying why spoil a good thing. Very Happy He may not need it now but might get into stuff that needs it like graphics and stuff.

Btw, don't let your dad read this thread or he might get ideas. Very Happy

And about that case, your dad sure has a strange taste in cases. In case you haven't seen it here's what it looks like. Quite hideous. Sad

Since you have so much money to burn, why not go with the more modern Core i7 platform (with Core i7 965)?

How is he rich? Do you realize the amount he's spending on graphics cards/HDD alone is an insignificant amount? So does that make you just a poor kid who's butt hurt because of his lack of funds. Or are you some how more intelligent because of your buying decision? It's wonderful to assume isn't it. Laughing

His money (Fathers Laughing ) his choice. Simple.

He's getting a kick ass PC. More power to him. And just because your post pisses me off so much why don't you put things into perspective. People buy $50k cars in which they spend minor portions of their lives driving. So is it not fair to spend money on a high quality PC taken into consideration how much you use it and how long you sit there staring at your monitor?
