|
 |
Hey guys.
I've got an GeForce 8800 GT card that I've had for a while, and occasionally ( pretty damn often ) while playing games, the card hangs up for a moment and then produces ridicilous artifacts, also just a constant static image sometimes...
I was wondering how the hell I fix it? Could it be a broken circuit?
I've got the newest drivers on nvidia.com and this shit still persists, I cant use the custom-made drivers at NGO for some reason.
Please help guys, thanks.

Heat?. Do you have Everest for example just to be sure your temps are ok. I run it all the time as gadget in Vista, mainly cause I am running on water and I OCed my CPU to 4GHz, better to be sure
I also have the same data showing on my G15 display, the reason of course is when I am gaming I can watch if especially my 4870x2 runs to hot etc.

make sure to clean dust from the 8800GT's fan!,or get a Zalman VH1000!!,no need for extra heatsinks,that's a lie

That's perfectly fine and within operating temp. If you are alt-tabbing to check temps you're giving the card time to cool down.
Download Furmark:
http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/
This thing toats graphics cards. I can play a game and get up to 50C but with furmark it'll go beyond 65C. It's a good stability test.

80 degrees are ok for that vcard if it's under stress of course, if it's idle with that temp it's not good
could be faulty/failed memory

Alright, I just did that benchmark thing, plugged in another monitor to check out the temperature of my graphicscard, and it seems that my graphicscard starts to fuck up at 105 celcius... so it seems that I indeed need a GPU cooler.
Can someone recommend anything that maybe is found on http://www.liontech.se/ProductFinder.aspx?q=c:36231?
You should see the brands and the labels of the coolers on that link.

Get this,the Zalman VF1000,best GPU Cooler out there,but i tell ya,make sure to have a well aired case..or could it be that the 8800GT's defective... http://www.liontech.se/PartDetail.aspx?q=p:1674190
or a Thermaltake's DuOrb http://www.liontech.se/PartDetail.aspx?q=p:1764186

If you simply remove the stock cooling, and re-apply it with some good thermal paste - It will operate much cooler. The problem with that stock cooling is that it's held on with thermal tape - Which sucks.

I think the problem is a combination of either high ambient temp or really bad case airflow. All these people with 8800GT's that are toasting don't have properly ventilated cases and blame it on the heatsink design or how it's mounted.
Have you tried leaving your side panel off to see what difference it makes.
Otherwise buy a aftermarket heatsink. They are dirt cheap.

Max temps for a 8800GT is 100c no joke. But 80c or lower is okay I guess. Maybe you should get a TT Duorb for it.

i have the same problem
when i bought my bfg8800gt oc2 card i made 3 fan profiles in riva tuner
for temps
56-63 -> 50% fan speed
68-73 -> 70%
78-100 -> 90%
everything was.. more or less fine.. until recently..
with riva tuner 2.11 and beta drivers 180.43, in dead space, stalker + texture mods and Sega Rally Revo, after say.. 30 minutes of playing, i get artifacts for about 5 seconds and then my screen turns black
so when i alt+tab from the game to check wtf is wrong, riva tuner shows 109C !! with the fan spinning at 90%
getting a Thermaltake DuOrb next week

I suggest one of these:
http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=147
-Cheap
-GREAT Performance
-super silent
get a Scythe Slip Stream 800 along with this Cooler and you will have a cool almost noiseless card for under 20 €.
Edit:
You can also get a good 120 pwm fan and keep using the fan control of your card. It results in a passiv cooled card during idle - that`s what I am doing. It`s a bit more work, cause you have to connect the fan to your card - requires you to check voltage on the pins. If you have any questions...

I have that setup (accelero s1) running since the release of the 8800 gt.
voltage regulators aren`t very hot on this card. neither is memory.
I don`t use any coolers on vrs and ram. Never had a single problem.
If you think cooling your vrs is a good idea, you can always use the heatsinks that come with this card.
memory really doesn`t need any cooling.
Buy whatever you like best. I just don`t think spending that much money for a card that is worth ~100 $ is worth it.
Maybe you check out this:
