Gigabyte are good, second best to Asus but from what I can see they seem a bit more of a cheaper alternative, but thats just my opinion, abit are on my black list now (Just thought I'd mention it, I could of added $10-$20 and gotten eSata and alot more features on an ASUS board but noooo I had to get the basics with HD audio, and I had a crap load of problems with the mobo upon putting the comp together)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400 Black Edition (3.2GHz)
Mobo: ASUS M3N78-VM
RAM: OCZ Gold DDR2-1066 2x2GB
GFX: XFX Radeon HD 4890 1GB
Audio: VT1708B (Integrated)
PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W
OS: Windows 7 (x64)

I second gigabyte; however.. you must have a good powersupply. I had a lot of problems with gigabyte boards when I was using cheap end PSU's but when I finally installed a good one it was stable as a tank.

Yeah you've got a point, I had a pretty good Gigabyte mobo but with a crappy Thermaltake PSU that came with my case (TT Soprano White, changed it since for more space) and it only lasted 6 months - just under a year which lead to the abit problems, still have a crappy PSU now, been spending all my money on hdds, oh well.

wouldnt u get a better price to performance ratio if u went with an Intel chip instead of AMD?
Ryzen 5 5600, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II, Corsair Vengeance RGB RT 32GB 3600MHz C16, MSI RTX 5070 Ti Ventus 3X OC , Corsair RMx Series RM750x. AOC AGON AG324UX - 4K 144Hz 1ms

I use PC Power & Cooling

I don't buy intel products, you must not know me lol, and no, if it's price/performance ratio, amd's is always cheaper.
I don't do much other than gaming, so anything debate is moot.
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/cpu-charts-2008-q1-2008/Supreme-Commander,397.html (SC being very CPU dependant)
Use that for reference. AMD 6000+ can pretty much compare to teh E6600
E6600 is over $230.99 USD Retail (non OEM)
6000+ is $92.50 USD Retail
My 4400+ as it is barely ever struggles with games if at all, and it's at 2.4GHz so theres really no need to go all gun hoe and spend a ridiculous amount of money on a CPU that won't get it's use. Games are more dependent on GPU's than anything.

It's getting boring but I'd also say Gigabyte (for motherb's that is) .
I used to buy Asus by default but their price vs. performance is getting worse by the model. Paying too much for fancy features maybe 10% of home users actually make use of.....

EVGA! FFS! If you want to roll with NV chipsets EVGA is the way to go 100%. Best forum and support out there, that's my experience with their boards and gracards.
Although this time I decided to go for a Intel chipset so I went for a ASUS board=1 RMAed and actually bought a second one as the RMA took to long . But in ASUS defence, when it works it works 100% solid.
But again EVGA all the way if you go for a NV chipset.

I dunno Spyke, sounds to me you are biased for no reason and missing out on performance.
First of all the E6600 is priced higher than the E8400 because of production costs, higher fab, demand, etc. The E8400 outperforms it by 20%. You shouldn't even be looking at the E6600 to begin with, they've been refreshed plenty of times and as of now it is replaced by the E8400. I don't understand why you are comparing the higher priced old model vs the cheaper faster new model.
Secondly, yes you may save some money on that 6000+ but why would AMD price it accordingly? Because it's worse!
Not only does it draw more power, put out more heat and generally perform worse it still gets beaten by the previous E6600 you mentioned. People are sitting on 4Ghz+ E8400's used as daily machines. Now you mention how your 4400+ barely struggles with games, again play some games with a higher end CPU and you will notice the difference. Also if you do ANYTHING other than play games many of Intels CPU's stomp AMD's in most desktop tasks. I wouldn't buy a CPU for gaming performance alone as I do other stuff that can take advantage of the processing power.
The E8400 can be had for $160-170 and is the same as the Xeon 3110 just binned differently. You can probably even step down to the 8300 to save money and still outperform the AMD stuff, or buy a Q6600?
Seriously man no offense but saying:
Quote: | I don't buy intel products |
Is seriously some of the stupidest shit I've ever heard. I buy whatever performs best/bang for the buck rather than holding some ignorant grudge against a company and missing out on performance. Take advantage of what's on the market instead of being dumb.
Seriously I don't mean to offend you, it's just your post makes me angry.

Yeah, my AMD 6400+ black edition overheats with a stock fan, no matter how many times I replace the thermal paste so I have to use a 9700LED, but the fact that it is in a bad place (corner of the room where theres no real way to get rid of heat) should be taken into mind, but no other CPU overheated on the smallest task, I couldn't even listen to music without it overheating.

Your the last person I'm going to take offense from bud lol.
Normally I'm all about the best bang for the buck, but, the 6000+ really will do me fine for the price. Why pay double that isn't going to be that much different considering I don't overclock or any of that. As for power draw, AMD released a new version of the 6000+ that cut the power consumption in half so *shrug* I stick by AMD cause I want to see them succeed again.

I'm extremely happy to see those cards doing so well against nvidia. Finally gunna make nvidia rethink their cards now instead of releasing bullshit like the 9 series

Are DFI any good? My friend asked me for some specs on a good computer and instantly thought Asus mobo but was wondering about other brands that don't get mentioned as much, if they are total crap or just not as good as Asus.

Mobo: ASUS M3N78-VM
RAM: OCZ Gold DDR2-1066 2x2GB

DFI are one of the gods of making motherboards for overclock enthusiests. But, with DFI...from what I remember, you HAVE to know what your doing with computers, they are far from plug and play. I've never heard anything bad about them other than the prices

I see, cool thanks, I've seen a few of their mobos on sale in NZ but nothing to the extent of Asus and Gigabyte.

always used dfi. great for oc and even if you don't the're just well built, bombproof mobos with excellent performance - never had any problems with them. and as long as you don't overclock anything, they are plug n play like all the others

I've had bad experiences with Asus and boards with known issues which were nothing to do with the chipset (A7V and A8N-SLI)
However my Gigabyte board has impressed me a great deal (GA-P35C-DS3R)
We all know DFI are great, but they cost a premium..
