What is wrong with the AXPI version? I beat it with 0 errors...and no net connection. What errors are people talking about with that version.

Those giving hackers 2 years: ever heard of Darwin?

I know you don't have time to read, what between trolling NFOrce and listening to your "glamorous U2 iPod" (lmao), but this was a guy who predicted, fairly well I might add, the direction that large, loosely associated groups of people take when placed under external pressure. They evolve or they die.

The same is bound to happen here. Some hacker will figure out yet another way to share large amounts of data, unobstructed, at large speeds, and the next BitTorrent will be born. By that time, BT itself, as well as likely IRC and newsgroups, will be taken over by the next generation of Common Idiot, who will use it as they do KaZaa. That generation will also be hunted by the RIAA or equivalent, out of spite that they cannot capture the intelligent pirates, who will, in turn, use warez just as they do today. So when Half-life 3 comes out, I have no doubt it will be warez'd just like the first two.

As for those who do not believe the law will capture our current threshold, look at the news: starting January the CIA will colonize IRC using terrorism as an excuse. Apparently Osama Bin Laden likes to be a 1337 d00d with the other 12-year-olds there. How long until the RIAA pry their way in? minutes? days? weeks? how long until the IRC lawsuits? a month? two? How long until the intelligent pirates withdraw from IRC? 48 hours.

Still don't believe me? Look at Napster. The first versions of the popular p2p client were also relatively elitist. Then newbs moved in with bad files, bitching, and being "t3h fr33 muz1x h4xx0rz" en masse. Shut down followed. The elite pirates withdrew from p2p into BitTorrent and IRC. Same will happen here.

As for the RIAA's effort, it's them chasing us. They're trying to find reliable ways to nab the worst of the worst and STFU the rest with scare tactics, we're trying to find new ways to tell them to fuck themselves. Who's winning? nobody. And nobody will win until one side gives up. Then and only then will there be an official, declared winner. Until then I see no point in threads like this.

erm...... lutz ur talkin out of ur arse. the steam servers were down 3 hours, and that was 6-9 hours after activation started. ie. when most brats were getting up to go to school. and to the guys sayin they were fanbys til they heard about the activation..... u only need to activate the cdkey ffs. if you log into your account then check auto save password, u can play offline. Rolling Eyes stop trying to be clever because ur obviously not.

Sorry but you're wrong. I bought the DVD version a week after it came out, IE after the activation servers had been hammered. On my 4mb line it took 15 minutes as it has to unlock the files.

So Valve pissed off real customers too with this STEAM crap...think of all the people in Europe who live in little towns where the wires was installed during WWII...they cant play the game either.

Your friends may need to take some english classes then or at least buy some glasses, cause on my box it doesn't say high speed internet connection, just internet connection, so thats just bs.

On the other hand i hope you were joking.

Ok and what about those who don't have an internet-connection???
Sure these days everyone has at least 56k, but what about those who don't want an internet connection at all? That's why they will get the bootlegged version! It's a very lame move to base a game on a forced internet connection.

If they wanted to make us all wait and buy real copies, they should have used the latest starforce. And this is why valve loses! (yet again...)

but honestly how many people who bought the game dont have a internet connection? i think vlave lost maybe 1 or 2% or sales by doing this, but also saved about 5% from not letting it leak.

All the while I've been on topsites and I've been under the impression I was 1337, now you're saying I'm using the old generation of warezing. Damn, I better upgrade to BitTorrent....

i aint buying nothing that has starforce, and likewise i will buy no games that require any kind of authorization. let them prove me guilty, but ill be damned if i have to prove myself innocent for any corporation. besides, video games are going out of style, if you ask me. tabletop wargaming is coming back, so to hell with all this anyways.

for the same $50, i can buy a game that i can invite all my friends over to play. with video games, i have to have computers for everyone, a maintained LAN, and 1 licensed copy of Windows each (say 6x200=$1200 in OS), and 1 licensed copy of game for each station (6x50=$300). of course, in my eyes that is dumb, and it shows what kind of leeway we are allowed with our EULA's.

solutions? when will the game companies start selling keys at a respectable price, so i can properly license my network? why cant i get 3 keys, plus the install CD's for $50 bucks? its all BS nonsense. there is clearly a high demand for downloadable ISO's and real, affordable solutions for network/multi workstation registration.

to them, these are not solutions, but sources of revenue. to them, solutions are ridiculous protection schemes with outrageous side effects, higher prices, and a senator or two in the pocket.

on top of all that, we now get tons of games out that are half-assed, and for $50+, you rarely get more than 10hours worth of fresh gameplay. how many RTS games are now released with about 15 semi-distinct units and 10 or less maps to play on? or FPS's with 7 guns we have all seen before, and around 15 levels that get boring after about 5 of them? it makes me long for the heyday of AOE, the golden age of PC gaming.

video gaming is just no longer affordable nor worthwhile for me. to see people actually debating that buying and supporting this crazy HL2 BS is smart, and that it will be worthwhile once the geeks with no lives actually mod the game and make it interesting, just goes to show how low our expectations are nowadays.

for me, i look forward to playing Betrayal at House on the Hill, War of the Ring tabletop, Battletech, and hopefully Warhammer Quest. HF!!!!
