We are not protesting that we got HL2 removed from us or anything of the sorts, but we are protesting that valve took software which we legally owned, please understand this.

I do.
But I see it this way, you stole something from Valve and they compensate their loss by taking something away from you. Is that legal? Probably not. Can you go and sue them based on the fact that you stole something from them? Certainly not. So I'd say tough luck for you. And I also think you deserve it and have no right to complain (no offense intended). Did you really think you could fool an authentification platform like steam? I didn't think for a moment that Valve could be cheated that easily.

Like I said before dryan. Imagine yourself going into best buy. You steal something. (yes this is wrong) Now that you have stolen that item, and best buy did catch you and punish you by the way, they now procede to come into your house, and take away all the stuff which you have legally purchased from them (which is a lot of things to).
Tell me, does that sound right, in any way shape or form?

It does not. I never disputed that, but you knew the risk and still chose to try it.

I would have been more happy if valve sent me mail saying they want 50 dollars for their HL2, or else. At least then It is
A.) More appropriote of a punishment
B.) Not taking something which I legally owned (Yes, I do realize I stole their game as well, but please refer to my best buy statement)
Might I also mention that if valve did that, I would be scared shitless, and probally never do warez ever again.

That's a stupid comparison. Firstly, if you stole from BestBuy you would know that they have no way of taking all the other stuff back. Secondly, when you buy from Steam you know that it is the distribution method for all of Valve's games. To pirate HL2 and then complain because they took away your other games is rediculous. You should have either used another account to try the shit which got you banned or bought HL2. You did neither and it was obvious what could happen therefore you deserve everything you get.
Valve probably know that this will happen to a few people but why should they care when you have stolen their software.

What is easier/cheaper? To send out an email asking for $50 from people who have been banned and perhaps get about 1% of people buying the game which results in fuck all cash for them or simply run some script which bans everyone who has done it.
I know which I would choose. They don't give a toss about you because you've pirated their software and that's a position you've put yourself in.

You just owned yourself. That second quote shows what you assume of me and yet you say you don't have a mental image of me? You pissed me off by accusing me of that just like I pissed you off. Guess there's no difference after all.

Best case scenario. A wee tyke named Billy Bob buys hl, bs, of, hl2 but he doesn't have cs-cz so he tries the fake thing to see if it'll work. After four tries it doesn't work so he forces his daddy to buy him cs-cz. Now his account is blocked. Why? He didn't steal, he tried to steal. Valve doesn't know who stole what. All they know is that a person attempted in stealing it. In stealing something. And just because their account showed up using a fake cdkey/ccredit card number several times then they block the account. They can’t see who stole what. Would take a lot of work. They simply banned those who tried using several of the illegal methods in getting their game. Now there could be at least 35% of Billy Bob’s out there who just tried doing it to see if it would work. Valve doesn’t care because they don’t know.
Valve made some money and some people lost their money. Who cares? people. Who doesn't care? valve. Who's going to do anything? nobody.

Is it just me, or is the NFOrce community ceasing to be intelligent people, and once again splitting up into the angry and the gloating?! Neither of those does much good.
If you want to bitch about your Steam account being revoked, there's the bitching forum, there's Valve's forums, and there's elsewhere. Pick one, and go there.
If you want to gloat because the one game you legally bought in your life turned out to be the one game you were in danger of somehow being punished for pirating, for fucks' sake... get over it.
The constructive types of posts I could see being put here:
- Instructions for removing ban/restoring account
- Instructions/link to instructions on getting online access to your LEGALLY bought games.
- Instructions for not getting caught
- Anything else that is not either bitching or flaming
This bullshit is seriously unlike NFOrce peeps. Take it to slashdot.

Why should Valve care about people who attempt to pirate their games?
I download games all the time but I know that if the companies knew what I was doing they wouldn't give a fuck about me or my cash and would do everything they could to stop me doing it again.
I'm afraid that any sort of consumer rights go out of the window when you attempt to pirate something. This seems pretty obvious to me so how can people complain?

To bad I cant post in valve's forums, because for some strange reason, my forum account does not have that right.
BTW My friend who has 2 steam accounts, both which had legit games on them, the one that he tried HL2 was of course banned, but his other one, he got an email from steam that said it was somehow lost in a database update. Wow.

You must mean something other than what that statement means on face value - cause it's just silly.
I am running both HL2 Emporio, and CounterStirke Source. As i do plan on buying the thing at some stage - can anyone please tell me what it is that leads to this ban? So I can either uninstall the pirate version or (preferably) just avoid getting caught.
Cheers

They say its from people that entered those bad CDkeys, and used the trick that tricked steam into thinking you owned HL2, so then you could unlock the HL2 files, But my friend didnt do that, he just has the emporio proper version. Im guessing steam is either checking registry data, or scanning the hard drive or something.

I'd say delete your steam entirely and make a new steam account before you install any legal steam games.

It seems painfully obvious that if you attempt to "trick" the steam authentication servers you run a high risk that you might get banned. If fucking Ponygirl 2 had some sort of remote authentication thing that could be tricked I would be saying the same thing. The fact that I bought HL2 is irrelevant.
As for the rest of your post, this is a DISCUSSION forum, it is for DISCUSSING things. Whether or not Valve were right to ban users who attempted to pirate their games seems an incredibly relevant topic for discussion in this thread/forum!
Sometimes people disagree - don't get so upset.
