not sure why.
ASUS A8N-SLI 939
AMD64 X2 4200+
3x1024 MB PC3200 DDR
EVGA e-GeForce 7900 GT 256mb
everything was working fine when I went to bed, I woke up in the morning and I get no video output. restarted and the computer won't POST. I do see activity from dvd-r and on the keyboard lights (caps/numlock).
now most times I get one long beep followed by three short beeps. but then sometime I just get one (soft sounding) beep.
I forget what BIOS I have ... but after googling I'm pretty sure it's phoenix. however those codes don't make all that much sense ..
http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/phoenixbeep.htm
I've also noticed that one of the plastic clips that holds the cpu heatsink in place has broken off so the contact between heatsink and cpu isn't 100% (still seems pretty solid though).
I've tried swapping video cards, swapping ram sticks around etc. not sure what to do. I have a spare asus a8n-e sitting around (missing northbridge fan for now) but I'd really don't want to swap them if I don't have too. Oh, also have another of the same CPU as well if I need to try and swap that.

Try resetting the bios.
Easiest way is to remove the motherboard battery and wait for a few seconds then put it back.

I will give that a try when I get home.
Will I need to re-flash the bios if I reset it?

No, it will restore default settings.
If it doesn't work unplug everything You can( leave 1 memory installed, drives, hdds, audio, etc).

Could also be the PSU. Hard to check, but as you seem to have some power, it's very similar to the prob i had some week ago.
The PC would power up but then just die prior to windows, or even while booting up. Swapped to my Son's PSU and it worked.

If the BIOS theory don't work, maybe worth looking in to.
I would also check that gracard. Do you have another PC that you could try your gracard with?.
EDIT: My bad, I just realized you tried swapping gracrads.
My bet is on the PSU.

I had a similar problem (albeit without the beeping), and it turned out to be the case shortcicuiting my motherboard. So if all else fails, try removing everything off the case, put the motherboard on a newspaper and try running it from there...
