What about Xbox emulator? Its strange there are PS2 and Gamecube emulators which run commercial games at a playable speed, but there are no Xbox emulators at all except those two very old which run Turok and Halo. Is there any Xbox emulator in development? Isn't Xbox emulation is supposed to be less complicated than PS2 emulation (for example)?

Well, the Xbox architecture is that of a PC equipped with a 733Mhz P3, 64MB of RAM and a modified GeForce3. When you can emulate that, you can emulate the Xbox (from a hardware POV of course. You'd still need to code for using the software and API calls)
Right now, even the absolute best VM software can't emulate properly. It will use your CPU and portions of your RAM, but not your GPU.

It's not strange at all. Xbox had shit for games, with most of them available on PC, so people are not so into emulating it as let's say PS2, which has shit loads of unique games unavailable on any other platform.
C2D E6750 @ 3.2Ghz, 4GB 800MHz DDR2 4-4-4-12, GeForce GTX 260 c216 OC 896MB, 3.2TB, Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Xbox 360 Elite, PS2 Slim, Xbox

I am sure this is not the real reason. Sure there are many Xbox games which are also available on PC, but there are many games which are not. Almost all fighting games for example, many arcade games, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibur 2, Ninja Gaiden, Mortal Kombat etc.. I am sure many people would find the xbox emulator very useful. The real reason why there's no emulator is because noone has enough skills (or time) to make one

Sadly emulation seems to be a dying thing. In the past there were several emulators for each console all competing against each other. Now theres basically one per console and the updates are rare and normally never large updates. With the way its going I doubt we will ever see a current gen console ever getting emulated. This may very well be the end of the road.

Aye, my sentiments entirely. The Xbox was still a great machine and it had some cracking games that we'll never see on the PC. The reason why it hasn't been emulated yet is simply because of the hardware. Right now nobody has the skill to emulate it, but that's not to say it won't happen further down the line. Xeon and CXBX both showed some very impressive coding skills (Turok and Halo, for example) so it's just a matter of time.

its getting alot more complicated and consoldes are on foot with PCs performance wise the past generations, so emulating that wont be for the next for years either....
anyhow i see emulators as something to be able to play all those old games as even if you wanted to buy them, you wont find them new and might not find them on ebay either, while considered bordline warez i think its one of the greatest uses i found for the internet since i first had it |
Absolutely!!!
As generations move forward, IMO, PCs get more powerful and more capable - and thus previous generation computers and/or consoles begin surfacing as emulators. Just look at the Gamecube/Wii. The emulator really has made massive strides, so much so that quite a few games ARE considered playable. This simply couldn't have been done five years ago when the Cube was at its prime. We'll always be two or three generations behind, in terms of emulation, but I'm confident we'll always manage to "get there"
Oh and yep, emulation was the PRIMARY reason for my getting into the PC-gaming scene. I always a console/C64/Miggy fan, but way back in 96 - my friend bought me a copy of Snes96 and a ROM of "Final Fantasy VI" ------ which I played, without sound and with something nuts like 5x Frameskip, on my trust old 486-SX Before that? I honestly didn't give a toss about PC gaming.

Aye, I'm almost positive you can do that in either of the two "zoom" apps;
MyZoom or NDS2XGL.
You can find both of those on the NGEmu boards. Just browse in the Handheld\NDS section.
=edit=
Yes, "MyZoom 1.8.27" supports screen-flipping from vertical to horizontal (portrait to landscape) and so does NDS2XGL 2.5b.

i like emulator and roms because you don't have to 'install' the games. it doesn't write anything to your computer's registry or put files in your windows directory each time you add a new game. everything is self contained in the emulated environment be it SNES, NES, etc. also, there's no need for the original hardware to be present.
but a lot of old systems are still not 100% emulated to this day even after 15 years of being around. sure, they can play most of the games for that system. but under the hood, the emulator is using speed hacks or other hacks to work around a problem.
mame and i think bnes are two emulators that try to emulate things 100% without resorting to hacks. but doing that way incurs a speed over accuracy performance hit. i for one prefer accuracy over speed. especially when we have quad core cpus with each core running at 2.4 ghz. soon, we'll have 8-cores/16-cores desktop systems (i can't wait). xb360 has 3-cores. so the more cores on the host system the better.

I'm on the other side of the fence on the "MAME vs The World" debate. I greatly prefer Kawaks or Nebula simply because they WORK. Games run and they run full speed. The audio works great and there's no glitches.
I'd rather have a working, full speed/compability, emulator -- than one that is purportedly 100% accurate but is slower in its execution.

I love Mario 64 using Project64
I wouldn't try the trick applied here on a console:

1 or 2 secs faster is possible i guess

I know this'll probably come over as trolling but isn't the Jaguar one of the least working consoles ever? I think I remember people having trouble getting games to work on their real Jaguar. Not much hope for an emulator I think.
And to be honest I can't remember any Jaguar exclusive game that would be worth replaying :/
But a quick google search told me that http://www.jagulator.com/index.html seems to be a more active emulator. You might have more luck with that one.

I had one 386-SX, then the first pentium 133
And loved the arcades too, but sadly if you didnt give a toss at the time, you missed the very beginning of the RISE OF THE MASTER RACE
