I'm an avid film soundtrack / score collector.

I've ran across a rare gem of a piece (the instrumentals from the opening of Beverly Hills Cop II - Bank Robbery), but the piece is actually a song, and it has some really queer vocals that ruin the entire ambiance.

What app could I use to go through and manually remove the vocals and just leave in the instrumental pieces? Is this even doable by an amateur like myself?

Tips appreciated

AFAIK vocals can never be entirely removed. There are apps that scan certain frequencies and try to filter out the vocals, but you can imagine the process affecting other frequencies as well.

I don't know any apps of the top of my head, but I think you should try and google your question combined with the word 'karaoke', 'cause that's kinda what you're looking for.

Good luck!

Nay, I ran across that version as well - not quite the same as what I'm looking for.
That's actually before the robbery, not during.

The piece I'm currently working with is : Harold Faltermeyer & Keith Forsey - Bad Guys

I always thought there was a professional editing app or something for this, that could isolate vocals and edit them leaving the background in tact. Shows how much I know heh.

You could use Adobe Soundbooth, it has an option to view a file's spectral frequency, it shows which frequencies are used at a specific time, and you can cut them out, if the song's instruments aren't all over the place you can remove most of the singing.

I'll give that a shot then, thanks.
However I'm not holding much hope as its a fairly instrumental piece.
