"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"



only happens when watching hd rips so it's not overheating or anything like that

HD3850 256mb stock, nothing overclocked

any idea how to disable it so it won't reset my vcard driver??

tried new driver, even worth, happens much more often and i get some really weird memory errors, ram was tested with memtest for over 5 hours

sometimes i just want to uninstall vista and be done with but i have to stick with it coz i got more issues in xp, audio drivers related

Maybe it is codec-related ? Try changing that ?

no codecs installed, and i tried different variations, altho i found one solution, will see if that helps

I found that if you go into the system configuration utility (Start menu then type "system configuration" in the search bar) and the choose the boot tab and then to advanced options. There you will see at the top two boxes that you can check one is processor and the other is memory. If you check both of these and choose one processor and then the max amount of memory that is on your system. Hit apply and ok. Restart your system and it should run quickly in 2d and 3d works! Yay!"


it doesn't happend that often really, but it is really annoying especially when u watching a film

motherboard chipset drivers installed?
latest videocard reference driver installed?
check guru3d and such forums for similiar problems

trust me i did deep checking and triple checking before posting here

i'm not first day with computers and this error only in vista, xp is stable as rock without any crashes whatsoever, but i kinda got used to vista and using xp as main os does not really appeals to me, i find somewhat vista more faster in terms of explorer usage

i saw that error alot with nvidia chipsets, but never with ati in practice

as i mentioned it doesn't happen that often i can watch like 2 hd rips in a row and everything is smooth

what i want to know is is it possible to disable this trigger that forces vcard driver to reset itself, maybe some registry tweak or something?

it happens like that: screen goes black during video playback and restores itself withing seconds with error showed above, well kmp can resume playback no problem but still it is very fkn annoying Embarassed

I don't think so, it is set to be displayed instead of a nice BSOD. I used to have that, like you said with Nvidia cards, first because of their shitty initial vista drivers then because of overheating after 3D intensive games sessions.

Dunno how it is done with Ati but maybe try to disable hardware acceleration for your videos.

Did you tried to use Driver Cleaner to get ride of possible left-over crap from previous drivers?

there was a setting for the recovery trigger in xp driver settings
having it enabled sometimes made the system even more unstable for some reason
i haven't been an ati customers for a while so i don't know if it's still there
but seeing what registry key it changes and making the same change on vista could be something to try

last time i used driver cleaner in vista i couldn't even install video drivers afterwards, it gave me .ini error
and yes i already tried solutions from site u gave me, as i said i did deep checking means google too Razz
but it is not an issue i did fresh install with stable driver and time after time i'm getting this lame error

well for some time now it works flawlessly, no errors or anything and that's after allocating how much memory i really have

This is known to happen when the memory and FSB are unlocked, meaning each runs at different speed. Try looking into the advanced BIOS settings.

for me the answer was to show vista how much ram i got

this error appears with nvidia cards to Wink

I have nV and get this from time to time because of overclocking, when the memory is unlinked from the FSB. It has nothing to do with what card you have.
