Saying ppl who buy the game are losers is a step in the worn way, that is like saying pirating is the right thing to do and it is not. Not for any game.

Talk about ALL release related stuff here!
DO NOT MAKE MORE THREADS!
Do not ask for cracks or the full game.
Do not post links or tell people where to get cracks.
Do not flame others, no matter how stupid they are.
Don't act stupid on purpose.
If you get flamed report the post and it will get removed and the offender banned.
Detonation and Reloaded releases have a non-working map and saving errors.
Vitality and TRFF are fakes with real viruses.

Well, I made it to the last part of the game and it closed out my game redirected me to a Russian website, then it froze my computer and proceeded to download and install a Russian virus that ruined all the media files and searched my IE explorer and transferred my saved password and account info to a remote server as well as other information stored in IE and mozilla. It also installed a keylogger. Somehow, the supplied Exe must have circumvented virus protection. Avoid this patch!!!!

Ah, the silence. Now that a working fix is out, several thousand people run off to play Mass Effect to death, and then delete it (or possibly store it to play again later). The topics have all settled down here for the most part.
The PR fools all huddle around a table shaking their heads trying to figure out what their gonna say, if anything, about the fact their brand spanking new product has been cracked by a small group of determined but creative individuals while the latest batch of geniuses at Securom sit around scratching their asses trying to figure out what went so horribly wrong with their latest brilliant protection scheme.
So what's the moral of the story? Companies continue to pour money and resources into buying and protecting games with the latest and greatest in protection schemes instead of spending that money to make the game a more complete, bug free and just plain higher quality product. In the end, it accomplishes very little. Truly dedicated (or would that be desperate?) people will always win out against the best protection in the world. Whether it takes a day or a year, everything is eventually cracked, one way or the other.
Oh, and let's not forget the "major" scene groups. They've either gotten more lazy or generally more incomptent. They put out bad cracks, and can't even be bothered to fix them and instead move on and put out more releases. Hardly paints a kind picture of any of them, now does it?
Ah, well. It is amusing. It reminds one of the classic struggle of good vs. evil. Those are my thoughts for the evening, take them with a grain of salt.

If he was kidding with "you fool.. do you really think everyone on nforce is a retarded noob?" he deserves a slap over his face. And so do you, sorry but there is nothing worse than people calling noobs all over this place.

Their only mistake was releasing it later in EU. If they had done a release at the same time, more EU gamers would have bought it.
In fact the protection did its job. People who wouldn't have bought it, bought it. Protection should be like this. Cause inconvenience inside the game to convince pirates it'd be better to just buy the damn thing. Most effective if the game is good.
Though care should be put into not causing inconvenience to paying customers.

Indeed, reducing hardware acceleration to basic level, sound in game appears too. Thanks for the hint.

@zmed
From Bioware forums:
Sound fix:
Code: | 1. Set sound to Software
2. Open up "bioengine.ini". Should be located at "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config"
3. Locate the tag "[ISACTAudio.ISACTAudioDevice]" and change these values:
MaxChannels=64 (default for my system was 28)
TotalAvailableChannels=62 (default was also 28)
4. Save ini file and play game. |
Shadow fix:
Code: | 1. Open "bioengine.ini".
2. Find these values and set them to:
MinShadowResolution=64
MaxShadowResolution=1024
3. Save .ini . |

True, but this game is the exception, not the rule. At least, for the moment. It certainly seemed to be effective, many people went out and bought it as you say, because of the frustration involved.
Still, the invconvience was a result of a non-functional crack and the seemingly inability for the major groups to handle it. The outcome would have been much different if the intial crack had been working. So, the question becomes, is the protection getting harder to crack or are the crackers simply not skilled enough/too few of them to crack something as quickly as they did in the past?

Are you saying the lords of old have died? This isn't fantasy, we didn't have people with stronger magic centuries ago. The triggers and such are probably harder to figure out which results in a longer cracking time. The protection did it's job, delaying a scene release by a week is a major feat.
