Wait, achievements? Isn't that an Xbox Live thing? No such thing on the PC afaik. In fact, when I played it I didn't see anything about any achievements anywhere.

There are achievements in the PC version, nothing to do with Live.

I have to say my only gripe is that the characters so far seem to lack the depth that the KOTOR characters had. I mean it seems like anything you want to know about them just instantly comes out. Nothing like clues that there may be more to the story, they just tell you all or their 4 minute story and that's that. Or so it seems so far. Do they get a bit more in depth with each character's background or are they just as they are?

I hope so. I've read something about talking to the crew after every mission to progress the romance-subplot, so I would guess that they only fill you in on their general background in the begining.

Yes, you have to talk to Ashley after every story mission. Also you shouldn't volunteer her to suicide missions, but that's obvious, isn't it? Laughing

Heh, I guess that could be more of it. However, they don't seem to have the hints of there being much more to them, like there was in KOTOR. I guess I just like complex characters who keep things hidden, but not well enough for you to not know there's something there. Rolling Eyes

Oh well, once certain problems are fixed or my order gets here, I'll be able to find out. Laughing So far I've been loving the game though. The sniping in it is quite fun.

so i know you can bang Ashley and that Alien chick but what about that other alien chick with that helmet - ;;;;;;;;;;;Wink))))))))

o and i love this EA crap haha
Code:
Mass Effect was originally conceived as a trilogy, but EA has confirmed that Mass Effect "will be a franchise for [EA] for a very long time" indicating that the franchise may extend beyond the planned trilogy. The next title in the series, tentatively titled Mass Effect 2, plans to use much of the same game mechanics as the first title in the series. Not much is known yet about Mass Effect 2 – Casey Hudson, Project Director for BioWare, has said that players should keep their Mass Effect save-files, because decisions made by the player in the first game will continue to have influences on their character in the sequel. Players who have not played the first Mass Effect will start a new character in Mass Effect 2, and will be brought up to speed on the story elements that have taken place thus far in the series.

can you imagine Mass effect 15 haha yeah way to go Bioware Rolling Eyes they will milk it down like MoH
and this hahahaha
Code:
As of May 28th, 2008 there is no automatic mechanism for recovering an activation. After three activations, a user will be required to call EA telephone support and convince a representative that an additional activation is warranted. Bioware employees have stated that additional activations will be provided on a case by case basis. Bioware employees have not elaborated on what circumstances will justify additional activations.

Bioware employees have indicated that when the servers at EA are offline it will be impossible to activate the game. Derick French, an employee of Bioware has stated that if EA takes the servers off line permanently then a patch will be released to remove the online activation requirement. However, neither EA nor Bioware have made any legally binding commitment to releasing such a patch.

No way to enable AA in this game? It's running UE3 so I guess not unless it was DX10.

EDIT: This. Games. Gameplay. Is. Great. Fun!

BS and KK, better remove the post and say something about gameplay. This is not technical thread and Rinze is watching (ala Sauron's eye).

Has there been any half-decent game that came out in the past 2 years that actually had an ending that was not a cliffhanger? Bioshock is the only one that comes to mind.

At any rate, gonna install this and give it a go. I couldn't get into KOTOR because f the whole turn-based thing, but since this is realtime I think I'll have a lot of fun

I don't think this game has a cliffhanger. But I'm not sure, haven't finished yet. COD4 had no cliffhanger.

Just finished it - fucking excellent. Not quite the masterpiece that Deus Ex was, but close. Definitely right under it. Can't wait to give it another play through.

That said, considering EA has its grubby fucking mitts in full on the title now - I hold out no hope for a worthy or even semi-worthy sequel. It will be milked to oblivion. It's a shame really. Guess it will go down in history as Bioware's last epic title - before they turned into corporate whores.

Ah well. I'll cherish the memories of this game for a long time to come.

The ending is not a cliffhanger. Without saying too much, it gives the same feeling Star Wars IV does - ties up the package, but still leaves room for sequels.

+1

Exactly. I also agree with Immunity; it's not AS masterful as Deus Ex, but still one of the most enjoyable games I've played in a very very long time. I enjoyed the ending (there's two possibilities, btw) and wraps the game up nicely -- while leaving a door open for any future titles.

Yes. 150 kills with a weapon gives you a bonus skill.

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Achievements

My question is, if I accomplish an achievement, is it possible to achieve it again on the next runthrough, or is just just once?

whenever I try to recover the probe on some planet, it says electronics skill is too low ! i dont get it Confused ! shepard need to have some high electronics skill ( playing soldier so no electronic skill ) or i just need to raise the electronics skill of my active team but i got Tali with advanced overload ( can use electronic skill on average objects ) i also have one more with advanced overload so together when i choose squad for a mission i got half of tech strength bar so is that not enough to crack that probe ?? do they need to have a master overload ?? and if so do i need to have two or just one team member with high electro skill ?? same question with decryption but i think it will be the same answer ! hope im not wasting my time and skill point on this Rolling Eyes

AFAIK all achievments are perma unlocked once you finish them. At least some of them are obviously working this way (like the "play through twice" one would not work if they would be counted per carrier).

I like it this way. Makes my life easier once I start on the hardest difficulty.

Yeah, sure. But what about the weapon achievements. I think there's a difference between the one you mentioned and the ones for the weapons.

Since you're a Soldier, you have NO electronics skills -- in which case you'll have to rely on having team-members with high skills - in your case; two of them.

Tali is one, I believe the other is Ashley. My old party was myself, a Vanguard, and Tali/Kaiden. Kaiden took the role of Soldier -- but Tali and myself were the electronics users.

Yep. But achievements are from the 360 version, and AFAIK those are prema-unlocked. For completist (like me) it would be nearly impossible to unlock every one of them in one sitting. so I would assume that all achievments are unlocked for all carriers.

That's cause I reported the crap out of that idiot who was asking how to start up the game. Can't read the title of the thread, can't read the what the proper section is.

Anywho, does the combat get any better later on? It seemed a bit bland the first 20 minutes I started playing

Yeah, sure. You advance in tech and weapons. I now use incendiary ammo VI or VII all the time - my assault rifle almost never jams. The shotgun has the explosive ammo but the shotgun is some crap, so it jams after two shots. Laughing But those shots are fucking EPIC, never met an enemy so far that could take one shot like that in the face and survive.

I PMed Rinze about the morons that couldn't read the title, I think that helped as well. People are fucking blind.
