most of us have known about this for a while, or atleast knew it was coming, but i thought id put in some info, and then we can all get together and have a group vomit.
first of all, ill say i like dbz, i thought it was over the top, stupid, not great anime by any stretch, but it was enjoyable and had some great fights and cool characters.
but i cant be alone thinking a live action dbz has to be one of the most idiotic, ill concieved and most pathetic concept ever... i knew they had planned to make a live action film for quite a while now, but i never actually thought theyd go THROUGH with it... for a start the humor can not be translated from anime to live action... it was goofy, silly, pathetic, but it worked in anime form... but in live action, it would come across as retarded and sickening...
anime just in general does not translate very well...
now for the info (assume rumor, but probably all truth):
goku: Justin Chatwin - i can honestly see the resemblance, so id say visually hes a good pick, but i cant see any actor actually doing the character correctly... its just not possible in live action DAMMIT...
Piccolo: James Marsters - again, yeah i can see it, visually hes a good choice
rumor is some chick named Camila Sodi is cast as bulma, but i dont see any imdb confirmation, so meh. either way, dont care... annoying as fuck character, hope she has an insignificantly small part in the film.
James wong is directing (final destination 1 & 3, the one) - which im ok with to be honest... atleast he has an eye for exciting sequences, and i think you could do a lot worse than this guy.
Hasnt started filming yet, but its set for an 15 august release next year... so its not just a bad idea, its a RUSHED bad idea.
Its going to be filmed in mexico (if that matters to anyone)
the ONE bright spot in all this, is that stephen chow is apparently producing... the humor in dbz is one of the hardest things to get right in a live action film, and i cant think of ANYONE who has a better shot of getting it right (the overall sillyness and fun of the series) - he is the ONLY reason im holding out hope that the film will atleast be watchable.
but its quite likely that ultimately this whole thing is going to be a mess. pretty computer-game looking visuals, but its going to be a cheesy badly made and derivative piece of shit... the only reason this is even getting made is to make some quick cash of dbz fanboys and kids who will see anything because its DBZ. im sure the trailer will look exciting and hook a few more people, but like i said before, ALL anime is virtually impossible to film in live action, and DBZ would have to be one of the most difficult of the lot to do well.

yeah, thanx for reminding me how much of a fuckup that movie was and the worst that could have happened with transformers is NOTHING compared to how badly this one could go...
