I just finished Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in US) and I loved it, even though it got a bit silly with the twists. are there any similar games? adventure games that don't boil down to "try every item from inventory on every pixel on screen", with interesting plot. thanks for all your advice.

I have always been wondering WHY THE HELL aren't there dozens of games like that.
Really. It is a plain great game (ok, it's easy..), and its structure could fit so many others!

Agreed.
Yes, the ending was strange -- but it didn't change the fact that the game was, and is, godlike. The game was a work of genius, just like Omikron.
I can't wait for Omikron 2!

Definitely: Yes it did
the argument goes bland past 1/3 of the game
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack newbies on fire off the shoulder of NFOrce. I watched VIP members glitter in the dark near the PC Gamers forum. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain..."

Agreed, The Longest Journey is great
But stay away from Dreamfall. Dreamfall would be a great movie, but for a game it was extremely boring (no puzzles at all, all you did was run around, talk a bit, run some more, fight a bit, run again, etc).
They say you play as three different characters... but not really. The main character is annoying, April has changed since the first game and the last guy is almost never seen

Fixed. Seriously, if you didnt like Dreamfall, then you're just not doing it right.

LOL xterro... that was too funny!!! But yes, to appreciate dreamfall you should play the longest journey first.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

lol, maybe you should try to play Dreamfall before you comment on how "good it is", as everything you just "fixed" has nothing to do with Dreamfall:
It's a fact that you almost never play as that last guy (and most of that little time is spent on fighting)
It's a fact that April has changed, that was one of the main points of the game (but of course, who doesn't change after 10 years in a completely different world?)
The only parts that Dreamfall has better (or just as good) as The Longest Journey is the story and the graphics. But everything else is way below:
- Time spent on puzzles in Dreamfall is a joke (or course if you hate puzzles, then this is great... but I play adventure games for the puzzles)
- There are more memorable characters in TLJ
- Even minor characters in TLJ are described deeper than important characters in Dreamfall
- IIRC you get to a lot more areas in TLJ than in Dreamfall
- Dreamfall has fighting (I love fighting games, but the fighting in Dreamfall is a joke. Would have been much better to leave it out of the game)
- Even non-experienced adventure gamers would be able to finish the game without even considering searching for a walkthrough

Finished the game twice, loved every second of it. Its an extremely good game and im sure everyone else agrees with me.
Id take every point you think you made apart, but id be getting nothing out of it, except wasting 5 extra minutes pointing out the obvious. Ill just say this. In an adventure game, thats exactly what im looking for. Story. Sure, graphics are a plus, but im mainly interested in the story. The puzzles were good enough, as if i wanted to play a puzzle game, id play one.

i think the guy is asking about games with the i dea of the dancing pad thing inside..like press 1 now and tap 2 now etc..
adventures you can find alot, but this dance mania style gaming inside quest's..this is more rare.
you can find it in bio hazard but not alot, thats the one that came in my mind right now..even at the end of AC there was part like that and sometimes during the game..i can't think of game that took this dance mania during all the game apart of this fahrenheit witch was very special game at it's time imo.

Overclocked was pretty decent. I thought the concept was great and the story was really interesting. Unfortunitly it gets a bit repetative and obscure in parts but still worth the effort.
EDIT: For more QTE (Flashing button thingy) get DC Emu + Shenmue 1 + 2

Then you should have been there on the official forum just when the game was released. Every second post was from people complaining about the same stuff I'm complaining about (add "stupid ending" to the above list, and you have a list of most complaints)
50% of the people who posted there did not agree with you
xTerro wrote: |

The only obvious thing you can point out, is that all my points are correct. What I wrote are facts, of course it's then up to every man for himself to decide whether they like those facts or not (e.g. for a person who doesn't like puzzles, he would put the lack of puzzles in the pro section instead of in the con section where I put it)
xTerro wrote: |

Then you're lucky. For an adventure game, this shows exactly what I don't want
I really tried to like it, but it was an impossible task. The only reason I finished the game, was to see if it was true what they were talking about. A lot of people has posted that the ending was one of the worst endings seen in an adventure game, I had to see it for myself

I loved, and I mean LOVED the game right up until after the part where you go on the subway and he gets his leg over. From this point it seemed to suffer from "WTF is going on" syndrome.
I guess I agree with dazz. The whole digital boss fight ruined what was up until that point a benchmark adventure game. Hope to see more adventure games from the guys who made it in the future.
I really liked the atmosphere and characters, the black cop was the best, it really felt like you could relate to them properly. Most games I find now are too stereotypical with the characters.
I will have to point out one more game for you, simply because I dont think anything quite like it came out for years.
Still.Life-DIE
It had me completely enthralled for 2 days of near constant play; just couldnt stop. Story, gameplay, characters, atmosphere, it really was awesome. It is very similar to Broken Sword gameplay, but more adult themed (and in places, very gorey). Highly recommended. (although admittedly I was dissapointed with the somewhat 'make up your own mind' ending)
