Well it looks like Asus is putting it's acquisition of C-Media to good use. Maybe the drivers for this can be modded for my X-meridian.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one

I'm also a happy owner of an X-meridian and the cm8788 chip on that really delivers, top notch. I'd expect this to be of the same quality though not necessarily of the same build quality because of the difference in the vendor.
That said Asus have delivered some good products during the years and seeing as this is the same chip I'd buy this over X-Fi anytime.
The chip performs very well in openal as well, which is now the replacement for EAX. So you do not need an EAX 5.0 certified sound card to get the most out of games like BioShock or CoD4.
In games like Supreme Commander you can really hear the high quality of the 192khz when theres multiple explosions and sounds going off all at the same time whilst you're listening to music in the background all in 5.1 surround - That is not possible on the X-Fi it can only do 2 channels when in 192khz if it's in 5.1 it defaults to 96khz. Yes I know 192 only differentiates the clarity of the soundspectre, but that is noticeable to audiophiles like myself Smile
It's a no brainer really.
