1) You don't.
2) Work (physically) til you drop
3) I've never had it, so I'm not an expert

Thats a tricky questions dude

How long have you had it?
If you've had it for more than 2 weeks, id suggest going to the doctor.

Ive had insomnia. I went to the doctor and at first she gave me a few sleeping pills (a weeks worth) to get my body back to regular sleeping. The pills worked but after they were done, the insomia came back.
So i went back to the doctor. She gave me sedatives (which I still take as i have sleeping problems and they are less addictive than sleeping pills). They dont put you to sleep but they relax you enough so you can fall asleep.

As for natural remedies, I'd suggest working out during the day (not before you want to sleep) and tiriing yourself out and then, before bed, have a glass of luke warm milk. Or, eat some turkey. There is a chemical in turkey that makes you drowsy. Thats why after eating Thanksgiving, you always feel like crashing out.
Also, try doing something relaxing like watching a funny movie/show. Dont play videogames as that stimulates the mind. Turn the lights off, lay down and watch a moive that isnt stimulating.
Personally, to fall asleep, I usually watch a Star Trek movie.

But like I said, if youve had it for longer than a week, go to the doctor an she or he will perscribe a suitable medication for you.

I feel for you man, ive had some serous bouts of insomnia. I was once up for 4 and a half days. I know how horrible it is.

Oats make you sleepy its the stodginess of them, the body needs to sleep to digest, like after eating any heavy meal. Sleeplessness is usually due to not eating enough for the body to kick into sleep-digestion mode in my experience.

Course a good wank or a deeply intellectual book can do the trick just as well, its all about wearing out your head & or body Wink

If you have serious Insomnia go to the Doc!. You might also need counseling etc. Nothing to be ashamed of. There are very mild sleeping medication nowadays, and that might help initially. But the main problem could lay deeper and for that you might need to sort stuff out in a longer perspective.

There is also stuff on the net if you want to do it that way.

I've had insomnia for about a year but never resorted to pills cuz 99% of the time its something mental, I solved my problem by taking up powerlifting, getting up early in the morning and eating more so my body is naturally more tired. Before that my life was very chaotic, no regular hours to get up, no excersise, no schedule, nothing, I could be up 36h and not be tired and never ever could I get to sleep at 00:00 for example, usually at around 06:00 I could go to sleep but then I'd just sleep for 12h straight and next day I just couldn't get to sleep on time, vicious circle.

So just try what I said above, should help you too, don't resort to fucking pills, change your lifestyle!!!!!

I had exactly the same problem when my grandfather died. We were real close, and I saw the whole thing. I couldn't sleep for so long.. the doctor put me on sedatives, just like Syco said.

The trick is, try to occupy yourself a lot. The no-sleeping isnt a problem, it isnt really something to worry about as it can't do any serious harm as long as you get some kind of rest. As far as I know the body can survive on 2 hours of sleep per night, so even if you manage to get a 30 mins nap per afternoon youl be fine. So stop worrying about it! Sounds to me like you grief is the problem. I would seriously consider going to a counselor mate, they really do help. They know what mindstate to put you in to help you over things.

Death and stress fuck the sleep up like nothing else, Im guessing your having problems with appetite too? If so, been on that boat aswel. Like I said, again the body is incredibly resistant to long periods of what I can only describe as 'shit'. The key is to not worry so much. Accept that your body is struggling to cope with things atm.. time is the best healer, and with the doctor's help + time your sleep will gradually return to normal.

Good luck!

Man!...I am so so sorry for your losses!. But for sure you have some serious and very private issues to deal with there. I would really recomend you to talk to someone that deals with these kind of problems on a professional level. Like I said, nothing to be ashamed of. I wish you all the best man!

I don't know. Sex helps. Then there's all kinds of things one can do. Before sleeping take a long ass walk, I mean like 2 hours. You'll come back exhausted and that helps me a buckload. And you don't have to do this every day, when I get insomnia, I find that derailing it (getting a full night sleep) helps a lot even later....

perhaps too much time on the net.

It can give you sensory deprivation if you spend too long on here.

Sorry for you lose Blue, we do the best we can I guess. Some of us arn't so good.

I found some quick playing games that when I go to sleep I can play in my thoughts. Mostly I don't sleep but enjoy my time 'resting' <---gamer loser right? Whatever I don't care. Kept me busy in my dreams for a bit.

Watergem, sorry about your grandfather. Never had one
