AMD promised that Phenom could be operated in most socket AM2 motherboards. Tom's Hardware lab has tried running the new quad core on ten different products - and failed with most of them. The brands, Asus, Biostar, Epox, Foxconn, Gigabyte, MSI and Winfast (Foxconn) usually provide updates for their platforms when new processors are released. Phenom has been available for one month now and even after a BIOS update, most of the boards fail to run the native quad-core processor right. Read the full story here

Well im glad i didn't buy a AMD Quad Core with my mobo i have.

Holy shit, that sucks. Just blows out one of the big(and few) pluses about the new architecture from the struggling underdog chipmaker. Sure they can fix it in bios updates, but how few ppl actually pay attention to bios updates? To most ppl, it "works" or it "don't work." Especially if you don't have an old chip or another system to get the update...

I'm afraid to say it cuz I used to be a Huge AMD fan, but almost sounds like another nail in the coffin. Sad Too bad.

Usually the people who build their PC or do a CPU update do pay attention to such things. Wink Those who will buy a pre-build PC with Phenom won't have such incompatibility trouble. Smile

I read somewhere that those Phenoms that AMD released had faulty cache. So they are not distributing it anymore, I think until January or start of February next year...

i used to like amd but im starting to favour intel more and more recently. i remember when the winchester amd64 cpus got released and alot of boards didnt work with them without a bios update, it was so bad some of the uk online stores were having to update the bios them selfs just to sell the mobos

It's all about compatibility , so i don't think it's AMD's fault , there are a lot of people with a few different types of MB's that have them working fine , you can check newegg or this site for more info. http://www.pcper.com/

2 Bad i was always a big big AMD fan from the socket-A time off.
My athlon XP (barton) rocked back in the day on 2.8Ghz.
It was blazin fast. Only u need a very good cooling then.
My AM2 3800 is still doing fine on 3.0Ghz. I also own a
C2D 6750 That runs on 3.2 Ghz..And he is just prety much
faster with converting video and gaming. They are simply
Very much faster then AM2 cpu's.

Only thing with Intel cpu that is a little bit fucked up is.
If u wanna run sli u are stuck with nforce chipset board.
Intel chipsets are all for CROSSFiRE. BiG FUCK you to intel for this shit...
Ati cards just simply suck compared to the new nvidia and GF 9 that
are coming omg ati wont have an answer in 3 years for that shit.
Nvidia is far away from ati in performance.

My intel c2d runs on a gigabyte DS3R.. Simply amazing performance for cheap..
Just keep in mint OCZ ram is very picky with motherboards.
And maybe some more but those i dont know.

New laptop: i7-3630QM / 8GB / Nvidia 650M 1GB / 500GB
