it's a remake. the international title of the Japanese version was "The Eye" as well.
I won't get started on the fact that this is destined to be yet another crappy remake of a Japanese movie.

You can tell Hollywood ran out of names. Names no longer have any thought. It's now all "The Noun" |
And like nouse said, its a remake...not to many original movies nowadays. I wonder if its because of the writer's strike or because hollywood is running outta ideas.
Personally, I'd like to see some adult, mind fucking, sci fi movies ala Sphere, or Event Horizon or something along those lines.
To many movies geared toward kids and teens nowadays.
Plus, not to many movies make you think anymore.

yeah, I liked it ... much better than any sci-fi in the last couple years. it's actually kind of like event horizon, just not so much emphasis on the horror aspect.

I know the feeling. I can't even recommend anything else because I can't think of anything else decent that has come out recently.

Quote: | In a report posted at Variety last night, it was announced that the fourth installment in the Terminator saga has a new title (Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins), a new North American distributor (Warner Bros.), and the same target release (summer 2009). |
Quote: | John Connor is not the main character of Terminator 4; that character is someone named Marcus. Marcus was put 'out of commission' before the nuclear holocaust on Judgment Day and he wakes up about 15 years before the future we see in the original Terminator films, which puts the movie at about 2015 or so. Marcus is a bad ass - think along the lines of Riddick - and what he finds is a blasted world filled with horror. Radiation poisoning, starvation, rampant jaywalking - all the things you expect post-apocalypse. There's also John Connor, who is trying to build a utopian society while running the human resistance.
Connor's role is apparently bigger in the second film; whoever they hire for Marcus (my understanding is that the part is not yet cast) will be around for all three films. Terminator 4 is going to be the most male-centric of all the Terminator films, but there is a butt busting female character by the name of Blair, a pilot for the human resistance.
They're going to need some buttkickers, because the scope of the action in Terminator 4 is HUGE. Lots of machine action in this film, including some battles with the T-600s. Yup, the rubber skin Terminators. And there's another familiar character that shows up - Reese shows up in a scene with John Connor. I don't know what his involvement in the next two films will be, though. |

Quote: | Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is the upcoming 2009 fourth installment to the Terminator film series, written by David Campbell Wilson, John Brancato, and Michael Ferris, directed by McG,[1] and starring Christian Bale as John Connor.[2] Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Stahl, and Claire Danes will not be returning.[3][4] Shooting of the film is expected to start on April 21, 2008 in Budapest.[3][5]
On May 9, 2007, it was announced that rights to the Terminator series had passed hands from producers Andrew G. Vajna and Mario Kassar to the Halcyon Company, a privately funded company formed by entrepreneurs Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson. In the Variety article detailing the purchase, it states the fourth film is now earmarked for a summer 2009 release and will focus on a 30-year old John Connor in what the producers hope will be a new trilogy. Series creator James Cameron is currently not involved with the project.[6] Variety also mentioned that Warner Bros. has McG prepping the film.[7]
On July 19, 2007, it was revealed that the Terminator 4 project is currently in legal limbo due to a lawsuit between MGM and Halcyon subsidiary T Asset. According to the article, MGM has an exclusive window of 30 days to negotiate for distribution of the Terminator films. When negotiating for Terminator 4, Halcyon rejected their initial proposal, and MGM suspended negotiations. After the 30 days were over, MGM claimed that the period during which negotiations were suspended did not count and their exclusive period is still open. Halcyon is now asking a court for an injunction allowing them to approach other distributors.[8]
The plot and storyline of the film takes place after the events of T3 around 2014 and focuses mainly on the war between man and Skynet in the post-apocalyptic world. John Connor will continue to be the central character along with a new character named Marcus, who will have "equal presence."[9] However, other sources say that the film will instead focus on Marcus.[10] James Middleton, the associate producer of the film, stated that "It's really about the birth of a new hero."[5] |
