A post on VideoGamesBlogger reports that Tiberium, not Renegade 2, is the title of the rumored new shooter set in the Command & Conquer universe. The report is based on a coming print issue of Game Informer magazine, and says the game is in the works at EALA, and is due for release late next year. There's a similar report in Czech on Hratelně.centrum.cz that includes screenshots as well as a Video from the game (though I can't get this to run, and the English blog says it's been yoinked by EA). They offer a brief write-up based on the print article outlining some of the game's units for this "squad-based action first-person-shooter game… described as Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter meets Battlefield meets Rainbow Six Vegas, but instead set in the C&C Universe."

Spoiler: | A Command & Conquer FPS game called “Tiberium” will be coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, according to American games magazine Game Informer. The Tiberium game is the cover story of their January 2008 issue and the game is said to be set 11 years after the end of the third Tiberium war. You’ll play as Ricardo Vega, a formerly-retired GDI field commander. You can play in single player or 2-player online modes. EALA’s game is set for a late 2008 release.
The squad-based action first-person-shooter game is described as Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter meets Battlefield meets Rainbow Six Vegas, but instead set in the C&C Universe. You’ll be leading a R.A.I.D (Rapid Assault and Intercept Deployment) around the location of the tower in the Mediterranean Red Zone that NOD defended until it was built. There’s no mentioning of you fighting NOD, but you will be fighting new Scrin infantry (the two given were Shrikes, little knee-high robots with blasters an a self-destruct, and Archons, think Scrin versions of Elites from Halo).
The units that were announced that you could command were standard infantry squads, missile infantry squads, a different version of the Titan, and new Orcas. You’ll still get special powers, like an “Orbital Slug” that you can call upon to strike down your enemies. Ricardo Vega himself is armed with the GD-10, a transformative, four-in-one weapon capable of dealing punishment under any circumstance. — Thanks to AJsarge for the writeup
Looks like a Command & Conquer: Renegade 2 will be reincarnated as Tiberium, let’s hope GDI, NOD and Scrin will all be playable. We’ll update this article as soon as there’s more info and pictures. |
Apparently this is the first CG video.

It'll be consolized garbage. The days of Renegade are long gone and never to return. All in the name of the mighty corporate dollar.

There were some rumors couple of months ago, that EA is working on C&C FPS game, which has been developed using Crytek's CryEnige 2. So this news doesn't come to me as a suprise.

supposedly its being made with Crytek's engine. If that is so, we could have a good game. Crytek have said they "plan to make a statement" if you go to the incrysis forums.

thanx for pointing that out or else i would have felt compelled to do it
I had some fun in the game but overall it was too little too late imho. MP was fun with enough people but it could have been so much more. I hope this new title will give back some of the expectations people had for renegade

its EA so it will be a flashy overhyped crap and a bad port with system req. so sky high that you would need a gf9800 to run it normally when it would runned normally on a gf7600gt if they would optimized it .
But hey thats the PC market , games allways will run like shit if they didn't the company's that sell those overpriced hardware would never profit from PC users .

There is when it comes at my expense (or any other serious gamer for that matter). You can't just bend over and allow publishers to rape you with increasingly shit ported titles in the name of the almighty dollar. It's called standing up to the glamor and hype and calling bullshit when you see it.
That said, its still pretty early to tell, but as BlueSkyz pointed out, its EA, so don't expect much (unless you love the run of the mill garbage they pump out).

I agree that EA ships out a lot of shitty titles, but let us wait and see if this is one of them, maybe when we see more of the game it can turn out a good game
About companies making a buck it is to a certain degree but every product sold has a margin on it, I see games in shops in Holland at 60 euros, I wont buy those, only if I really sure it is a very good game, like supreme commander of Crysis for example.

I thought it was an innovating idea with a decent single player and an absolutely awesome multiplayer...
