Easy question. I need a relatively cheap wireless keyboard and mouse combo that will work on my coffee table for use with HTPC. I have found some nice 25 ft cables to run video and audio across the room, now I need this to complete it. I will be sitting maybe about 6-7 feet away from the receiver plugged into the front of the case, but facing in a different direction. sorta like this, XXX = desk with computer tower in the bottom, sitting on couch facing TV

So, I'm pretty sure I at least need the wireless to be bluetooth. I have a MS wireless laser mouse now, and it gets sketchy even a few feet away from the receiver.
Does anyone have any experience with these two keyboard/mouse combos?
LOGITECH MX5000 CORDLESS LASER D - $60

MS WRLS ENTRTANMNT DESKTOP 7000 - $80

value for money is important obviously. any reason to pick one over the other given the price?

I dont have exp with MS but i do with logitech. You cant go wrong with logi since its pure quality. Maybe someone uses MS so he can tell you more about that.
P.s. Logi gives more for less money.

A few weeks ago I've bought the Logitech Cordless Desktop LX710 Laser for my HTPC. So far i'm happy with it. The Setpoint software is also working without any problems under Vista, despite all the negative statements in various forums.

after reading a few reviews I'm leaning towards the MX5000 combo ... I plan on using it for gaming so the mouse functionality is important. oh, that dinovo set is sold out at that place ... so it is not an option (these are refurbished and 1/2 price or so).
whoknows, do you have any problems using a non-bluetooth wireless set? I read you really need to have 'line of sight' between the receiver ...

For IR you need to have line of sight. For RC or BT you dont. Can you link me to sites where you read that logi is worse then MS. Tnx.

No, at least not with mine, the receiver is about four meters away from the keyboard, and it's out of sight. I didn't want to go for bluetooth, first it was too expensive for me, and secondly a friend of mine had the first bluetooth combo which came out from Logitech and he wasn't happy with it. Had constant dis- and reconnects.
I decided for the LX710 because the keyboard's size is smaller compared to others, same goes for the mouse. I don't use it for gaming, so i can't really comment on response times with games.
Nouse, make sure you check out the Logitech forums before you buy anything. Their forum is full of people reporting problems, makes you think their stuff isn't the best quality. But at least mine works like a charm so far

wow, there are some people who bought the MX5000 desktop that are really unhappy, and some that say it works flawlessly. a lot of the problems seem to come from vista though, and I am on XP SP2.
Now I don't, know ... it looks like it could be a POS, and I'm worried since it is refurbished so it doesn't have much of a warranty...

What ammount of money would you spend on board and mouse? I think that that way it would be much easier.

that keyboard is only for MCE pcs (requires Windows® XP Media Center Edition Infrared Receiver), plus I use the keypad for FPS games.
oh, and I'm buying from this store because they are dirt cheap resellers of refurb stuff.
MX5000 there = $60, retails here:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=1578644&sku=L23-7066
for almost $150.

Ok then, you said you need mouse for gaming. So this is youre mouse for games. They dont have better there. So you can buy any other keyboard from site that you like and use it with that mouse or buy MS set. There are no options other then these two.
