gf and I went out today and got our christmas present to ourselves Samsung 40" LCD btw ... pretty good price, was $1200. It was surprising how many TVs in this size (37" - 42") don't have 3 HDMI inputs, which is a requirement for me (HD cable box, DVD player and PC). Most importantly, SD television doesn't look half bad on it, much better that I expected. Awesome I wish the prices were as good here Too bad the shipping is a pain in the ass, otherwise i could make some good dollars on importing one.. Oh well, im getting a LCD tv just after christmas, plus one (like the one i already have) LCD monitor for my pc And, my parents is getting my sister a LCD monitor Christmas present of 2007 - LCD screens! naw, went for 720P due to really low price (same model in 1080p was $1700). Anyways, most of what I've read says there is no discernible difference between 720P and 1080P at this size of screen.

considering what I had before this (10 year old RCA CRT with a discoloration spot), I would even be content just watching upconverted DVDs Razz

the best part about new flat panel TVs is that they are quite aesthetically pleasing, meaning it was easy to convince her that we should get rid of the 'ugly' tv Wink

sometimes it sits on the speaker, sometimes on the coffee table, sometimes next to my desk ... etc..

Now all you need is a cheap Toshiba HD-DVD player, the A2 or A3 can be had for $250, and the venture player can be had for $199. Nice looking TV btw.

I don't think I'm going to get a HD-DVD player at this point ... for now I'm pretty content watching upconverted DVDs (which are a 10x improvement over what I'm used to). Gunno give it a few months till the price drops even further ... A2s are already below $100 in the US... http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/07/90-000-hd-dvd-players-sold-in-one-weekend/ since I'm planning on hooking a HTPC up to it I can still watch HD rips at least for now. I have only bought maybe 3-4 DVDs this year so I wouldn't get much use out of it anyways. But for sure, I would go the HD-DVD route and not BluRay.
