I had a good idea who took it so I got my mate to get it back, which he did.
Anyway I wasn't bothered about the phone its years old.

I was however worried sick about the sim card.
I've had a few people contacting me for a new job.
So anyway what I want to know is, is it possible to copy my phones sim card? I have a sim copier and I'm wanting to know if they're protected?

I dont know if its any different in England, but i have personally copied my SIM card with two methods. Once with a simple USB to PC cable, then using some free app to copy the whole contacts book to a file on my hdd.
And you could also pop the SIM into another phone, and back it up on that phones memory.

You get new phone. You insert sim card. You copy sim card to phone memory. You remove sim. You insert new sim card. You copy info from phone to sim card. All info stored on old sim is on new sim. Youre sim only holds contact list as far as i know. Rest is stored in phones memory.

No! You don't get to keep the same number with a different sim.

Oh you want new sim with same number? Pfffffff you should have said it in the first place. You need to go to youre mobile operators shop and ask for a new sim with same number. Very easy. You need to pay some kind of fee.

Why in gods name would you clone sim card? You cant use it if you dont know pin or puk number. You cant do anything with sim if you dont know these numbers. You get 3 tryes with pin before its locked.

I've been programming smart cards (a sim card is a smart card) and I can assure you that yes, you can clone a sim card data but you cannot physically clone a sim card.
Each sim card has a unique number (like a mac address on your network card) and that's uncloneable (its physically burnt into the smart card). The sim card is bound to your service provider via that code (not by your phone number). Thus, if someone tries to impersonate you using a cloned smart card, he won't succeed even if he fakes the phone number. He will only succeed when the service provider inserts that new code into their system and binds it with your number but then the number would be already bound with your sim card and he won't succeed.
To keep it simple - one sim card can have multiple phone numbers but one phone number cannot have multiple sim cards.
Personally I would be more worried of the data that was stored on the sim card rather than someone faking my phone number.

Yes, when your sim card is bad, they copy it at the store and put it on a new one, so it is possible to copy the sim card.

ok...I must clarify the "one phone number cannot have multiple sim cards" part.
One phone number cannot have multiple sim cards by different persons. If the number is already bound with another customer, then you cannot have it. If it's bound with you then you can have the same phone number.
So unless your sim card and id-s get stolen by your twin brother or sister, then you're in deep doo-doo....or might be.

Can't you ask your provider for an extra simcard? It's pretty common to have multiple sim cards around here, one for in your phone, and one for in your car with builtin phone. The phonecompany just gives you a free clone when you ask for it.

My hubby registered the phone, I don't think they would even deal with me.
I'll check out that link, thanks Photish.

Here in IL, we have all those illegal Russian cell phone shops than can copy a sim card in a matter of minutes for a minimal fee.
I'm guessing in the UK it should be the same, not much legal but cheap, fast and they don't ask questions.
