seriously, my philips ones were great, but the left side of it complete shattered apart and ive had to 'repair' it with sticky tape... not only that but the entire thing is literally starting to break apart, loads of little cracks everywhere... the things on deaths door
im looking for some GOOD headphones... these will be hooked up to my pc, so i dont need portability, i need quality. hopefully nothing insanely expensive, but good sound, and is quite durable - good build quality, not cheap plastic or anything like these were... all that for a reasonable price
any suggestions?
im looking at the sennheiser's at the moment, the hd595 is pretty highly recommended - any thoughts?

One thing you forgot to mention, for what will you use youre headphones? For playing games , listening music ? If its music what kind of music? If its for PC only use then you dont need good headphones. Do you have pci sound card or onboard? If you have onboard then buy the cheapest headphones there are because there is no improvment in sound quality when used with quality headphones. I have S595.

i have the AKG k271 Studio-Headphones. Great for almost everything, but since they are closed headphones i wouldnt really recommend them for longer gaming sessions. But for gaming 1-2 hours in the night without waking up the neighbours they are awesome.

Aren't they professional, studio quality headphones? If so, that's not that much.

Any headphones I use for the PC would HAVE TO HAVE a mic....that limits the range a bit, but thats me. I use these when I make music through my Tascam US 122L
http://www.akg.com/site/products/powerslave,id,250,pid,250,nodeid,2,_language,EN.html
Not to expensive either...around 120 Euro or so.

hahahaha, i mentioned the EXACT SAME headphones like 3 posts above you
and yeah, great headphones. Especially that they shut-off, when you take em off. Great, if you work with microphones...

does 5.1 on headphones actually work? I've always seen it kind of like a scam or something but never knew anyone who actually had a pair to ask.

hey guys, sorry it seemed like i had neglected or abandoned this thread or something... i have been reading what youve said, and been looking around... thanx for your suggestions.
originally i had always wanted a 5.1 headset, but i had always heard everything on the market was utter rubbish - poor implimentation, and basically... like spykez said, it sounded like an overpriced scam. i had never heard of these medusa ones before though, and from the reviews ive seen they seem to be pretty decent, probably the best 5.1's on the market...
so you guys would seriously recommend these for gaming and movies (i do watch a fair few movies on my pc, and always wanted to game with multiple channels)?
at the moment i have a rubbish soundcard (seriously... im all about teh grafix, and have neglected audio and know nothing about it, its the only thing on my rig thats recycled from an oooooooold pc)
- at the moment for a quick fix id be using my motherboards hd audio plugs at the back, but down the road id be looking at a new soundcard if these headphones are all i hope they'll be... what would be a good soundcard to get, one that gives great quality and features, but isnt too expensive?
thanx for the feedback.

I recommend them. Just don't crack the bass to the limit, because it can hurt your years
They won't replace a good 5.1 speakers system, but they are pretty close.
Just make sure to get the banana connection ones, and the USB ones.

Indeed this is the version to get. I have it and am very glad with it. Banana connectors connect to sound card.
Get one of the XFI cards.

CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER X-FI XTREMEGAMER
decent enough for those headphones? im just looking for something thats low cost at the moment, but will make GOOD use of those headphones, and in general, is a pretty decent soundcard.
and remember, thats $168.86 in NZ dollars, not US... so thats like 2 cokes and a chocolate bar in comparison.

first of all, 5.1 doesn't work, it's all about your psychological "it must work, NOW!" experience..
get some pair of audio-technica ath-a500/900 or something else which i can't recommend atm..
read head-fi forums - there are the biggest audiophile geeks together explaining.
besides, try good expensive stereo headphones through audigy's/x-fi's cmss or dolby headphone, then you can see what i meant about good and quality surround.
and these "gamer" headsets - they are pure crap, i mean they do sound but are way overrated and offering 1/3 the quality of their price. again, read more at head-fi from professional audiophiles
edit: though if you go for $300 > headphones, then you have to get yourself about the same priced amp to feed these bastards
