This describes your average WoW addicted player; or if you would, a 'Blizzard bitch', perhaps even progressing to describe any MMORPG waster.

Definitions :

he's just stupid fat and lazy.

He/she sits day in day out on the computer, playing WoW. Its an addiction, a need, an absolute god-damn-must-do part of his/her life; much like the need for a "wino" to cotch on the bench drinking Jack Daniels all day long from a brown paper bag, whilst college students and school kids stick random objects to him/her, poke and point fun at.

A textbook example :

Pronunciation[Wow-ah-hawl-ick]

visual example :

How to spot a WoWaholic:

Physical signs of WoWahlic'ness
-Generally found but not limited to, overweight.
-Unattended facial hair which often contains decaying food.
-Bent wrists, immunity to RSI

Mental, psychological and personality trait signs:
-Often misses deadlines, he/she never shows up to your house to play Xbox at the agreed date and/or time.
-Often but not limited to; a social outcast (sometimes stretching as far as being outcasts on the internet, possibly due to extreme pessimistic, aggressive and outspoken forum posts. -see "trolling" -see "fanboy"-)
-Often but not limited to, being a total ass hat.
-He/She thinks that WoW raiding is more important than seeing friends; leaving the house; and im severe cases, general hygiene and using food for the purpose of not dying of starvation.

Other noted symptoms
-Often, the pitiful soul believes that having a female on the friends list in-game makes it ok to call them "the GF, the misses, the girl, and in extreme cases; the wife". (Reported; some patients have actually held Marriage ceremonies within the World of Warcraft.)
-Often quote in-game lines and mannerisms in general conversation.

I fear my buddy is becoming a WoWaholic! what can i do to save him/her?!

At the current time, there is no solution to the problem, which is getting worse and more widespread with every expansion from Blizzard. The only proven solutions (note: some have not been tested) can be found below:

-Females with healthy Breast's gyrating in front of the patient. (Please note, this is only a temporary "treatment" and not a cure.)
-A shotgun to the face. (please note, ends life of patient)

Feel free to elaborate on the WoWaholic. I am considering posting this onto Wiki, at least urbandictionary.

It's not just WoW because the same people who crap on those wowaholics are playing second life or sim city or those cool co-op war games. Till this week I had not even heard of a game called Habbo. Turns out there's 6 million people who play this game and I can't even figure out what it's about. Each of those mmo games boasts a client-base of millions. Razz Wouldn't be surprised if the totals come out to more than the total population with computers. Very Happy

Why stop at games? Even those zillions of facebook, myspace, etc users are playing a kind of an mmo. Only their profiles are based (mostly) on their real selves and information.

It's all escapism.

thing is wow is agame that requires alot of time to succeed in, you cant compare it to for example playing the same amount of time at CSS etc.... anyhow, some sit on msn for 8 hours a night , some watch tv 8 hours a night , as long as ppl dont neglect the important stuff as job school family , then everyone can do with their free time as they like .

not at all , but i played wow before , so i know how mmorpgs work and what sort of ppl you find in it , truth is you find all sorts of ppl in it , since especially wow is for casual and hardcore players at the same time.

Many who never played wow imagine someone who plays it sitting in a basement playing it for 8 hours straight, in all the time i played wow the maximum session i saw anyone play was 4 hours, basicly it all comes down to stereotyping , just liek someone who didnt play FPS before imagine those players will kill half a school the next day.

No matter your skill etc, mmorpgs still require a good deal of time investment , but you can perfectly play it an hour a day , still have fun , and still succeed in it, and what most notice is that the ones who play wow , like to finish a quest/dungeon in one session, so they will most likely to hold on and ask you to wait with whatever you want to do with them .

as far raiding goes in WOW, it can be very rewarding with little time spend compared to solo or small group questing, what i noticed though is that many dont understand how you can have set times during a week to do this. Its like the set times you have with your clan etc to scrim or whatever.

as i mentioned before , the important thing is you dont neglect famaily friends school job etc , dont go raiding 7days a week while your friends ask you to go for a drink at least once a week , but in the end you find all walks of life in wow , on the internet in general. hardcore gamers , casual ones , rich ppl , not so rich ppl , married folks with kids...

Just typing this out cause wow was my first mmorpg , and it will be my last one , till expansion pack i raided with high end guilds , but the expansion pack sorta reset all progress made so i decided i have seen it all.and barely play it anymore.
But i saw whats it about and who plays it , and honestly out of those 9 million ppl playing , you will find ppl dying in korea cause they played it 48 hours straight , bound to happen , just dont stereo type a game or players you know nothing about Smile

Well said Stefan. I play wow and I've played a multitued of other mmorpg's in the past. UO, SWG's, EQ 1&2, Ryzom and a whole load more. They're the most engrossing of long term games. I could play for 10 hours a day at times.

Other times I don't play for a month on end. Its just how I feel. I mean I've been playing since July and my main character is just a lowly level 46. Hardly a hard core wow addict.

Yet its just like anything else in life, be it sex, food, drugs or pain. People can and do take it too far. Yet it seems to fall on the typical wow player that they're reluctant to go out, have no lives and are fat and unkempt.

Well I'm sure there are players like that. Just like theres people from all walks of life and hobbies. But the VAST majority of wow players are just regular people with real lives and real jobs and they just happen to like the odd game of Warcraft.

What really fucks me off is that people believe it can only happen on MMORPG games... I know people who spend their life playing CS/BF2/TF2 and many other games, are they not fat slobs who live in their mothers basement?

It's a really low way to hate on what is actually a decent game.

Quite right Dazz. I mean you can be addicted to anything really. Be it any of the subjects I put up. Hell I;m sure you can even be addicted to forums such as these. I do know theres cases of internet addiction and the Chinese Govt. has re education centres to deal with it.

My point is anything can be addictive, so leave off the wow players. We're not all fat lazy slobs who are afraid to go out and kill them selves because they've lost a powerful sword. Which incidently happened in Ever Quest. But its like blaming a violent game because someone has killed. Its not the game its the person who was already mentally unstable to start with.

I only bash the game cause I've played it and hated it.

The only reason stereotype it so much is because it's one of the most popular games on the face of this planet, and with that many people, you hear more demoralizing stories about than you would say...the sims.

I left the old CS when they brought out those stupid shields. Then I went on Source.

I loved the old one and I don't mind blowing my own trumpet when I say I was a top player.

But like I said they screwed it right up. Hell I was there from Quake 2 to the CS beta when the M4 had a sight.

Ahh the good old days.

I left 1.6 too. I loved source cause at the time the source engine was gorgeous and quite a bitch to run, so only the adults who had the money could actually run it. So playing it was rather fun cause you didn't have all these kids trying to start shit and acting like..well..kids. Been over a year since I played though, got sick of the shark thrower (one hit kill sniper)

what screwed up CSS is the cheaters , never ever saw anything close to that in any other game , and the carelesness of the other players when its done.

hehe. 1.3 was the best. I attended one of the best tournaments in the world for counter strike, the Cyberathlete Professional League back in 2003. It was a great experience, my buddies/team mates practiced hard and i really enjoyed it. That was the pinnacle of CS, after 2003 it really went down hill for me.

Different people have different views on productivity - to the non WoW player wasting your life away Raiding 6 days a week is well...Can't think of a word Laughing

But from inside the players perspective - Raiding is as productive to them in an accomplishment sense as any work/profession, it's like getting a raise when you find new gear.

BTW - I never played it just going off some n00bs I know Laughing

After some close surrvailence thats my conclusion Smile

I agree that playing instead of doing stuff with your mates (when you can) is a very bad thing. Social connection trough the net can only be so strong, meeting people, seeing, hearing, touching? people "irl" is far more rewarding in the long run. There is not only bad things with games like WoW, there is people who may never get any "real" social interaction except trough the games, but of course this is a minority, still.

I play WoW from time to time, almost always with friends I know irl. It's a great time waster when its raining outside or you are unable to see each other irl. I have this mate who lives far from me and its great fun "hanging" out with him in-game, doing some casual (getting pwnt) PvP and shit from time to time. We play all sorts of different games together (Halo 3, Gears, WoW etc).

Not everyone who play are fat and out of touch with reality, but there are many. I agree.

Edit:Thou the average geek is a skinny fuck who get cracked in middle if you punch him in the stomach.
