I'll admit if your just running some software or general internet use on 64bit CPU, the thing effin flies even tho
-it likes to randomly lock up
-the task killing sucks dick, vista has all this new shit to "make your experience better"
-I can't stay in a game longer than 10 minutes before vista crashes it
-the UI has been redone to be more a pain in the ass

My only beef with the m$ OS's is that they change the UI each version. So when Vista came it took me 2 hours to figure out all the network settings... fucking ridiculous.

and they allready said that the new SP3 for win xp and the Sp1 for Vista will have new UI that will make your experience better hahahaha
i hated when after SP1 my win xp has lost few options , with the SP2 they added new UI well not new but tweaked the old and added WINXP firewall bullcrap, and after the IE 7 installation the "windows internet connection options" windows are changed with new crapy UI for winxp (you can also say that IE7 even tweaked the hole Windows Explorer with new UI )

roflmao! ^^
How did you manage that?
I hope you have like TunUp Utilities or some undelete software installed. Most of the times you can restore a lot of your stuff as windows is dumb and only writes a one time 0 on every bit or something like that. Real deleting software is like writing 400x a 0 or 1 on every bit. Takes forever but is secure.

well, my cd drive I bought doesn't like to read windows installs disks for XP halfway through installation oddly, so I have to either use my other drive that's decisive on when it wants to read a disk or install from my HD. Well I had extracted the contents to my HD but forgot to plug the power back into my OS drive, and I was raging out hardcore cause I was getting so pissed I didn't realize there was only 2 hd's shown to format (one being my installed games drive) and wasn't paying attention to the disk size and formatted it :\ After I realized I had installed windows on it, it was too late to recover.

My two cents ...
I too will only switch to Vista the day it will be NECESSARY for playing the latest games i like or for some really feature that i cannot stand without (like a new [better] filesystem what was promised in Vista).
I'll even say more: actually i have two rigs, the newest c2duo with XP while the older one, a P4 @ 3,4 ghz, still has WIN2K !
I use the latest one for downloading and trying all the possible stuff prior to installing the ones i really like to my main computer.
Up to now i have been able to run every game on the older pc on win2k (even many XP only games thanks to various great heads around the net) !
Actually i'm playing Two Worlds on win2k without a single problem and i'll probably continue to use win2k nearly as much as XP for years !
So for now Vista for me just doesn't exist.
There are only 10 kinds of people : those that understand binaries and those that don't.

Fuck Vista! Viva XP!
* fires off AK-47 into the air- 2 hours later a hobo and a goat are mysteriously found dead via the random bullets falling back down*
I've given Vista 3 tries - every time I did it fucked me, and I still came back. I'm a goddamn glutton for punishment.
XP until Vista is abso-fucking-lutely necessary to play a good game.
P.S. DX10 can blow me.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

if they fall down they wont kill you, just give you a headache. if the bullet goes into a parabolic trajectory however your a goner

what about a transobolic trajectory? Sounds like something Data from Star Trek would say

uhm, no. If you shoot straight up into the air, the bullet will come back with the same velocity it started with. So, if you stand still and aim right, you re a goner. Thats the reason why warning shots often randomly kill people...

Hmmm no because bullet doesnt travel in straight line. The more it flyes the more it alters its course becuse of the wind and gravity and other shit. If it moved in straight line and you shoot at precise 90 degrees and you stand still it still wouldnt hit you. Earth rotates you know, so you wouldnt be in the same spot when bullet hits the ground.

When you shoot the bullet its gun powder what gives it velocity and when the bullet comes down gravity is the only thing giving it velocity.

sure, there are different conditions that will alter the bullet-course (and i left those out for simplification), but it s still wrong to assume, that the bullet will be slower if you shoot straight up. The cinetic energy the bullet gets is used up to the point where it falls down again, because gravity and cinetic energy are equal there. Then it will accelerate again up to the point where it is as fast downwards as it was upwards. It s basic physics.

A bullet fired perfectly straight upwards would never come down with the same velocity at which it was fired. The initial velocity is provided by the charge and on the upward journey gravity AND air resistance work against it to slow it down. While coming down gravity will accelerate it and air resistance will slow it down to a point where the bullet achieves a maximum velocity called terminal velocity. At that point the drag is equal to the gravitational force so no further acceleration will take place.
Furthermore, when the bullet is fired it is imparted a spinning motion by the barrel which will be absent on it's descent. It will be a tumbling motion on it's downward journey. This all does not mean that the bullet will be harmless at that point. The terminal velocity (around 250 ft/sec) is enough to cause some serious damage.

Going to the earth rotation, long range artillery has to take it into account when they calculate the trajectory. As well as wind resistance, humidity, etc, etc.
