Thanks guys I signed up with news demon.
Are BT capping download speeds in peak times on these news providers now. I know they do with torrents but recently my daily downloads on newsgroups are not full throttle speeds anymore but if I download after 11pm till about 10am it will be full speed.

Try using encryption. Ususally if an ISP can see what your downloading or using what they'll throttle you. Mine does that with torrents unless you used an encrypted connection. most newsservers offer an SSL connection. Giganews you gotta pay more for it, usenetserver gives it for free |

Interesting I'll have to give it ago then. So how do I go about encrypting my internet connection.
I'm on an unlimited plan as well so BT should piss off. I can download what I want.
https://www.newsdemon.com/join.php?pricepointid=17 I'm actually on a premuim ssl account but they still seem to be capping the speeds. I'm on the 50gb per month plan for europe which has ssl and europeon server.

depends if they offer it or not, they'll give you a seperate address to connect to in your newsgrabber. like usenetserver's is secure.usenetserver.com then you enable SSL options in the grabber then it encrypts the connection. So it also depends what client your using to grab your shit. I personally recommend using newsleecher as it supports it.
[edit] ya your server supports it, login and see if you can find the connecting address for it. |

Also what about azureus for my torrent files dose that have an encrypting option if not which torrent program do you use that has an encryption option.

Encrypting you connection won't make a blind bit of difference as they're more concerned with the amount you're downloading. Virgin Media does it too though its not as stringent as BT. If I download more than 3gb between 4pm and 12 they reduce my connection to five mb. Although it is still prudent to encrypt it. Best not letting them know what you're getting.

theres some homeade stuff that's just as good, but more than 80% is all scene release stuff. All old games...chances are it's an old scene release, I downloaded sin one day that was released by an old dos group. They still pretty much have all teh rleases from razer, immersion, FLT, deviance, hoodum etc. |

use newsleecher, you'll have to pay to download the search results but I use newzbin anyways so it doesn't matter |

i actually use usenet-news.net, it accepts paypal, it has a nice speed and it sells quota blocks too (if u don't wanna a monthly cost and/or you dl very much it's a nice option).
for the reader i can advise as an alternative altbinz, it has various usenet search engines incorporated (binsearch for example), ssl support, and up to ver 0.24.2 is free (not that matters much -P).
There are only 10 kinds of people : those that understand binaries and those that don't.

Actually they just have to look at which groups they host.
Some newsgroups providers are advertising all over the place that you can download everything from them while being not really subtle in marketing piracy, e.g. just have a look at usenext's website, with an ipod well in the top banner along a PS3 controller and they have their ads and "affiliate program" put on every piracy related websites... Better to keep a low profile sometimes.

I have read on many websites that info ... not to be pessimistic but ... if they start, as $en$i says, to look at the hosted groups of ng servers ... what could happen ? They'll begin to shut down them like the edonkey servers ?

www.newsfusion.net accept paypal, been using for a couple of years now without problems.
Great PAYG option.
