49 DVD:s?? Holy crap. How many dvd:s is the whole star trek-verse box set gonna take? 350?

Edit: Oh, and im a B5Man myself but tng was and is the only star trek series that i've liked. (Haven't seen any of the enterprise episodes yet, but doubt that any better than voyager & DS9) And the odd end comment ... ... ... Riker <3

DS9 were the only ones that weren't really set in that insanely stupid utopian universe of ST, but instead had much more darker, grittier story lines. I never liked the others (except for Picard, lol).

They shot TNG on film but unfortunately they did all the editing and adding of effects shots on video. Thus a straight HD transfer is impossible. Maybe in the future they could re-edited the raw footage and re do all the SFX, but it would be a big job. Much more involved compared to what they have done with TOS

Just finished season 1 and first episode of season 2. Did i miss something? Wesley wasn't present for quite a few episodes including the end of season 1, and when season 2 started he was an ensign and was ready to leave enterprise. That's some gap. Also the new members of the crew. Wish they would implement them to the crew during the first episodes rather than they suddenly were there from the first episode.

i've changed my opinion during this time. TOS is the one to watch, TNG has craploads of really pointless episodes.
And also bought a 42 disc set.

Times they are a-changing.

Really doubt TOS is any good watch now if you have never watched it before. So much cringe worthy stuff on TNG, especially their fighting and way of speaking, but it's a good show all in all after what i've seen. I dare wager TOS is 10 times worse on those regards. Gonna look into Deep space 9 after TNG. Have also watched Voyager and it was pretty bad. Mainly due to the captains inconsistency. 1 day she is willing to sacrifice the entire crew or a planet in order to save someone, the next she condems someone for having such thoughts, be it her crew or the government of a planet they come across.

TOS has a lot better writing, moral/ethics/philosophy-dilemmas, if you can watch it past the fact that it's old and had a low budget. And the skirts <3
My guess would be that if someone watched it for the first time now theyd be pleasently suprised.

Something that I missed from my original post was the fact that B5 still owns Wink

I actually prefer Voyager due to the writing. There are some brilliant episodes in Voyager.

Where Voyager fails is in the characters. None of them besides the doctor (Who is a hologram) are interesting IMO.

TNG has better characters and acting all around, and it still has some brilliant episodes - But I still prefer Voyager. The setting Voyager takes place in allows it to be a little more interesting since they are trying to get back home from the other side of the galaxy.

Agreed. The setting in Voyager was brilliant.

DS9 is still my favourite show plot-wise, but TNG has some of the best single episodes or character episodes. (The inner light)

TOS is indeed great for issues they encounter and how they discuss them etc. Just look up the episode with Kahn (Space Seed) to see what I mean. Reboot Kahn is pretty generic compared to that.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

DS9 and Voyager for me, I love the setting and episodes. TNG had some great eps but the ratio was skewed towards filler and TOS is far too cringeworthy and camp, though I appreciate it must have been incredible for the time. ENT was surprisingly enjoyable too and unfairly cancelled just as it was getting great, rather than just "enjoyable" --- though the less said about that abominable theme song, the better.

TOS is actually pretty bad from Season 2 and on - but it's full of fantastic ideas. I'm a HUGE fan of the Star Trek concept and vision, though.

I also happen to adore Spock as a character, so TOS gets some points for him alone.

I couldn't stand Voyager and despised Janeway - but I hear there are some great episodes in there. I'm sure there are and I still plan to one day go back and see if I can get through the first seasons again.

Enterprise, however, I found completely redundant and weak - but I didn't catch the last season.

DS9 is very good - but I don't think it's Trek enough, and I found the resolution of the primary storyline weak and underwhelming, which took it down quite a bit.

All IMO, obviously.

It's funny how ENT simultaneously has the worst and best theme/intro out of all ST series. Very Happy

VOY has just as much filler episodes as TNG did, since they share the same basic idea. And lots of stupidity too, like how they neutered the borg and made Q annoying. But it has some good eps as well, and even if you don't like most of the cast you can't help but love The Doctor.

I liked TNG most because it had the best ST feeling for me, DS9 was a cheap Babylon 5 imo so I didn't like it much (though there were some good characters), Voyager is right after TNG for me, Enterprise I really liked (might've been the lack of a proper scifi show). Never watched TOS.

Let me see:

1.Voyager - you need to endure three season to reach the good part. Same goes for DS9.
2.Enterprise was canceled after a rather decent fourth season.
3.I still love TOS and TAS, mainly because if the characters.
4.TNG gets on my nerves every time when they start moralizing. Extra points for TOS for not being so black and white. At least in Voyager and DS9, both Janeway and Sisko understood that sometimes is better to forget the rules. In TNG, Picard sticks to them, no matter what. And Kirk, with his dislike of rules and protocols...

Picard breaks the rules on more than one occasion - but it's true that he respects the Prime Directive a lot.

Janeway was an inferior female clone of Picard, though.

At least Sisko was his own dude - even if he seemed to be high half the time.

the last season of enterprise was really good
it was just finally picking up steam when it got cancelled, probably based on the previous really weak season
tng had a lot of filler, sure, but voyager had much more dumb stuff
especially the series finale was totally out of character and just fucking insulting to fans

but after abrams raped the corpse of the franchise with his reboot i really can't complain about any of them
