|
 |
I have :
Athlon 64 3500+ Orleans 2200/200
K9N Neo nforce 550 AM2
GF-7600GS
2 gig ram
3 Hdds 200gig SATA
2 DVD burners
1 TV tuner card
and TAGAN 430W TG430-u15
upgrade to :
Athlon 64 FX-62 Windsor 2800/200 (mounting it to the same board)
and so cheap but power full 8800GTS
the question here is "will TAGAN make it ?" and "I am assuming correct that this FX-62 can be installed on a AM2 board socket (940)" and "Is it worth it ?"

Tagan won't make it, you'll need at least a good quality 500w. Safest and cheapest bet would probably be something like a Hiper 580w, modular if possible (can get those for about £52 - £60 these days). I'll be upgrading to a 8800 GTS sometime next month and I'm a 500w antec smartpower 2.0, which I'm sort of 50/50 on being enough. Also don't go for the unbranded 700w crap, doesn't provide enough power.
The FX-62 is an AM2 socket seemingly, so it'll fit, but whether your board supports it is another thing so you'll have to check the specifications on the board. Not really good with AMD processors so I'm not sure after looking at them.

just an idea , wouldnt you rather go with an x2 600+ ? its also 2x 1mb cache but 3.0 ghz instead of 2.8 ghz , and almost $100 cheaper .... unless you want an unlocked cpu .
i might just totally be missing something .

Man, don't be cheap and get atleast a 600W PSU! That's the minimum these days...

Last I knew those modulars are crap. They create resistance with the plugs leading to some power loss.
btw, I just wanted to post in here so you'd be haunted by my sig.

I AM A STUDENT TOO! And I'm poor too! But if you plan on having a reliable PC, get a 600W PSU.

Have you checked if the mobo supports the new CPU you want?

Well, I would go the other way around... You CPU is... Not that good, why the GPU is *OK*. I'd go the other way around. In 4-5 months, DX10 cards will have their prices dropped and you'll be able to buy a better one than a 8800 GTS.

It'll work out of the box. only the 939's had the issue and just needed a bios update to get it to work.

Why not buy the CPU and PSU now and wait with the GPU? That 8800GTS is not really such a good buy... In December you'll be able to buy at least an 8800GTX for the same price.

8800GTS 320MB does not allow true DX10... With 320MB you can't set textures to even Medium on some games. So you'll have the great shaders, but with medium or low textures, lol.

but i WANT to play DX10 .... on second thought i buy this in 2008
for two dx10 games is not worth to change the hole comp , and Lost planet on dx9 worked with 22fps for me and it was playable |
play what on dx10? so far the only game out is teh demo for LP which full release isn't for about another 5-6 weeks then I think it's a patch for company of heroes (and another game) then bioshock then crysis. which are all DX9 compatible.

Long wait then... With that crappy new Radeon AMD has put, nVidia has no pressure to release new cards.
And you can always buy a new card when ZE GERMANS come.
