LOL, thanks, but I meant what type of solder, silver solder, lead free solder...etc etc. Smile I wondered if one was now favoured over others these days. Been a few years since I soldered anything you see.

Think it was Lead free..

Sorry to point this out but 'Most installers' do not use Hot glue! Especially on a mod chip that will need reprogamming very shortly !

They do (well all the ones I talk to do Wink..) Plus the Wiikey is DVD upgradable so you never need to remove the chip to reprogram it... Smile

Having some problems here similiar to what I have had in the past. Solder isns't stcking to the points on the chip and instead is just "balling" and then rolling away. Any tips on how to approach this? thanks.

have you tried some Flux?? just smear a very small amount on the contact you want to solder to and it will help the solder stick.

Try heating the area you are soldering up more. Cause your problem usually happens when you are trying to apply solder to something that is too cold.

Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc

I sussed out what was wrong. The tip of the soldering iron wasn't getting hot enough compared to lower down the tip for some odd reason. I filed down the end and made it into a new point and it works fine now. Strange problem but happily cured. Thanks for the replies guys.

What about Original WII and GC Imports. Are these playable yet? I thought to buy me the new Densha De Go but if it's not working I don't need the chip and the game.

You can install it without wires but I wouldn't recommend it to be honest. It would be far too easy to bridge the solder points if you aren't careful, especially as the chip doesn't 100% line up with the points as it's supposed to. Using wires is a much easier and neater way to do it. You get the wire supplied so it really shouldn't be a problem.

Plus of course using wires means much easier removal should you ever wish to change the chip as new ones are developed.
