You actually have to have XP installed in order to install Vista Upgrade. Not only that, but the XP key must go through WGA verification before Vista will allow upgrade.

Yuck - started playing a .mp3 in WMP 11 and noticed some BS service called "mfpmp.exe" (Media Foundation Protected Pipeline EXE).

Bastard eats double digits amount of CPU %.

Damn you Bill!!! Mad

Anybody know if this is WMP 11 exclusive or will it affect any software I use for playback of my .mp3's?

Hmmmmmmm............

I love the WMP 11 GUI and hate to dump it but this process is unacceptable.

I guess it's back to Winamp I go.

Use Vista Manager or Vistas own service disabling crap. There are lots of ways to go about it.

Hmmm, I don't have that service. I tried running WMP11 but nothing came up.

Is it possible for you to set it's priority to idle or something lower then it is now to reduce the CPU load?

Nope - it wouldn't let me reduce it below normal - task manager bitched at me for trying.

Damn - the service I disabled was called "Software Licensing" but upon furthur review it looks like that is not the one I was looking for...

Apparently it only comes up on files with DRM but I am positive none of my .mp3's have DRM yet the process still runs and won't stop until I close wmp 11.

I'm looking for an alternative now - I hated WMP until 11 came out and I was using it a lot on XP.

Shame Willy had this DRM crap implemented...

You can just download single gadgets by going to the add gadget panel and clicking on get gadgets online or whatever. Just sort through em there. I highly recommend the flckr calender. Gets a pic from flickr for each day with the days number in it. Really cool.

Rather get the image from the msdn official release...

1. Install Vista without entering a key.
2. Set the date to 2099 (or whatever else far) using "date" command in cmd.exe (run as admin), do not restart,
3. Run the "slmgr -rearm" command in cmd.exe (run as admin) to rearm WPA, do not restart,
4. Set the date back to 2007 using "date" command in cmd.exe (run as admin), do not restart,
5. Run as admin the crack setup, click "Install",
6. Restart and you are done.

By MSDN release i mean the official version released mid november to MSDN subscribers,
i.e. this file:

"en_windows_vista_x86_dvd_X12-34293.iso" [2.49 GB (2,678,614,016 bytes)]
SHA-1 hash value = "b71e04564ca22e4d9928e59298eff87cf62b382b"
MD5 hash value = "1008F323D5170C8E614E52CCB85C0491"
CRC hash value = "C11363AA"

The tinyurl lead to the antiwpa forums.
