so i walk into store today at 11.05 and there it is.. not selling. I pick one up and Zelda twilight, every other game looks like shit so i just get zelda. played a bit its ok. The wii sports is pretty shallow i thought it would be better and it is a pain when it doesnt recognise your swings. Zelda is deep but looks like shit, they need to sell cables. There is NOTHING to download free.. no news.. no weather.. no wiiconnect24.. not even virtual console demos. that is dissapointing. This console needs good games badly because i dont see many coming. how many mario games can you make. i hope for it to be better soon or at least cracked so i can try some of the shit ones.

I quite like it! The only thing bothering me the sensor bar. My tv is nothing special its only a portable but its mounted on a stand and its quite high up and I think that is a bit of an issue with the infrared signal. |
for the info the sensor bar only emits POWER , it does not emits any infrared signal

Hehehe the Wii control is based on this mouse technology. This tech has been around for years.

To see it in action search Google for "Quake 3 24 LCD"

I can't say that is what they used in the end but i know that was the company's tech they used in the beginning.

Im not sure the first person shooters are a good thing with the Wii controllers. I have Red Steel and Call of Duty 3 and too often I find it frustrating. I fear the eagerly anticipated new Metroid game will use a similar setup and that would be a shame if it ruined the game.
On another note, Rayman is fantastic! Some of the minigames are genious and highly enjoyable!
But the game that has me really hooked that most if not everyone bought on launch day is Zelda: Twilight Princess. Ever since A Link to the Past on the SNES, every single Zelda game on any format has failed to impress and the latest game on the Wii is by no means no exception. 5:15am I went to bed this morning and had to get up at 9am for work! Argh! It was worth it though. The best Zelda I ever played was Wind Waker and at 17 hours into the game Twilight Princess comes close but I dont know if it will take my preference until I am done with the game. Easily worth buying the console for though in my opinion!
May the NFOrce be with you always.

My thoughts:
The System Itself:
If you need the latest greatest *graphics*, do not come here.
If you enjoy original, fun, different, old school, etc. games, then chances are you will find something justifying the price, or will do so in the near future.
Zelda:
The last Zelda I played was Link to the Past. I gave up on consoles when the PS was released (had 0 interest, even when playing it at a friends.)... This is my first time back in the games!
I love the game. I've played it for hours upon hours, and am no where close to the end. Not only have I enjoyed it, my fiances, who does not play games, has actually sat with me watching me play and pointing things out that I've missed.
I like the controls, and the swinging motion for attacks works for me.
I personally don't put the graphics on a pedestal. I enjoy games whether they are beautiful or retro. Personally, I would rather play a game with higher art value than games that try to be realistic... There are always things you simply won't be able to make realistic, and in a realistic game, they stick out like a sore thumb. If I ever need realistic graphics, I'll use my PC.
*To those of you with 360 and PS3 who have been console fans before these new ones but who are screaming "THE WII GRAPHICS ARE SO TEH UGLYGAY!" You need to fuck off and die. You've been playing the shittiest graphics gaming has offered while trying to justify it to PC gamers. Idiots.
Anyhow.
Wii Sports: Single player: Meh. Fun, but little replay value.
I have to ask, of all you folks saying you aren't impressed with Wii Sports... Are you playing by yourselves? That's really the only way I could see your reactions being what they are. This game NEEDS 2-4 players. With this many players, I've found it to be one of the more fun experiences I've had in gaming (dating back to Captain Comet, Commander Keen, and other old computer games).
The controller is perfect for it. It's easy enough to pick up, but you won't master it right away.
Personally, I'm the quite excited about in depth sports titles. If they ever release a Virtua Tennis that fully utilizes exactly how you swing, not helping at all, I will pay gold.
Rayman: This was a pleasant surprise. I've been a big fan of the Platformers since their inception... So I was a bit apprehensive about the minigame style play... But it's thoroughly enjoyable. I think it is best played with 2+ people, but I enjoyed the single player as well. Reminded me of the old Track game for NES... It's quite fun.
AnimalMother: Perhaps the hype surrounding Zelda is due to
1.) Excellence in previous entries to the series
2.) Unanimous critical acclaim
3.) Nearly Unanimous gamer acclaim
4.) The game being fucking awesome!
As for the power of the Wii... Personally, I think they could have done a little better, perhaps a better graphics chipset/more ram... But after playing the games, I'm not going to complain. As for the controller being old tech... Uh... *kind* of. Wrapping all the motion and acceleration detection into an incredibly affordable and very comfortable/small device is what's new. Before they may have had x and y... or acceleration... but x, y, z and acceleration? You obviously have not used either product.

Yeah dude I get that, Zelda for the win and all.
I was actually referring to the hype surrounding the Wii, whats the big deal about it. I guess part of it is certainly to do with the new control scheme.

I'm buying it as soon as my country gets a new shipment in january. After seeing people play wii sports I got hooked, and especially wii sports tennis. A REAL tennis game on the wii and with this controller would be the best thing ever!
I was extremely sceptical before but not anymore, the wii have owned me. =)

Animal: Ohhh, I see, yeah...
Personally, I was a bit skeptical of the control scheme... I hoped it would work well, but it was an unproven method of control. After hands-on testing confirmed it worked well, I was a bit more excited. When everyone in the industry got their hands on it and talked about how well it worked, I was even more excited.
I'm not all hyped up about whats out *now* (Zelda is great, but at the current moment, it and Rayman/Wii Sports are the only reasons I brought one right away).
I'm more excited for...
1.) Developers getting creative because they don't have a baseline investment of an incredible sum of money (The PS3's devkit and costs of developing a game are astronomical! 360 is a bit less, but still a lot more than the Wiis... In fact, if you have a devkit for Gamecube, I believe it's even cheaper). Because it's cheaper, I'm guessing we will see more "out there" and different games; games which you would not want to spend a fortune on only to have fail. It also provides an entry place for developers who simply don't have the capital for a PS3 or 360 game.
2.) Controller. Having heard all the reports, and now having tried it myself... I am very, very excited about games that will be coming out in the next two years. It opens up a whole new ballpark of potential game ideas... I think in the very beginning there will be the problem of people being like... Hey, let's make our game motion sensitive! And simply map in game actions to pointless and irrelevent controller manuevers. Most good developers however, will probably utilize it as much as they can without mapping out pointless motions to what would normally be done with a button. Consider that the controller tracks motion in all 3 planes, along with acceleration, in a very accurate manner, and consider what a good development team could do with that...
Those were the two biggest things for me.
For now, I'm happy playing Zelda the hour or less I have a day to game...

I'm personally a huge fan of the AA's... I hear they don't last long (although I've played mine for a looong time with no problem!) but...
The cost effectiveness of being able to pick up a quick effective AA charger and high mAh batteries for a cheap price beats any nice looking charger...

Not really, the 360's charger is pretty cheap, and you can play while it charges. You don't have to keep a set of batteries on charge rotation.
