It's because of global warming (wether you believe it's manmade or not is up to you). I live up in northern Norway (above the polar circle, 70 degrees latitude), and it's like you said deelix, in the pre-millennium decade, and especially 95-97 there was a lot of snow. Since then I have had the impression there has only been less over the years. This year is special, because a couple of months ago we had 60cm of snow fall one day, but it quickly disappeared. Since then there has been no snow at all, which is highly unusualy up where I live. And now it's almost christmas, still no snow.
There was this weather forecast until 2070 in my local newspaper a couple of weeks back that said that the weather will only become milder. The average temperature will climb with 5 degrees C, there will be less snow and more heavy winds, etc. I don't remember all the details, but I will see if I can find it.
Bottom line for me is, it sucks to have no snow at christmas. |

Dont worry, its predictable that every second year is colder, and every other is warmer. I couldnt find facts why this is happening, but its said in the Al Gore's document.
At least, in scandinavia we have this, what about in your country?
These things can differ since climates behaviour really depends on the location, amount of other variables aswell.
It is really alarming, that you have warmer nights than days in december..

You are talking about no snow?!
We only had rain this year like [u]2 times[/2], if you can even call it rain.
Something is totally fucked up here, it's cold but the skies are sunny like in a mid summer day.
Ask where's the rain before! I haven't seen snow for too long, i can't even remember exactly if it was 2 years or 3-4 years.

We haven't had real snow for over 20 years now, we used to have snow every winter, so thick you can ski to school, and it would always start snowing roughly the same time each year like clockwork. Now last 15 years its all gone to the shitter, last 10 years there's been totally no snow, only rain during winter, gone are the seasons cuz summer and spring are fucked up as well.

And btw, the alps have been free of snow this year. Usually there is shitloads of snow there. It's alarming how the weather is changing.

When I was young we would go to our cabin and I remember having to dig a hole to get to the front door, more like a path. Later it would snow and eventually we would end up with a roof over our little tunnel. The snow went why past the windows, you couldn't see out of them. Now the snow is about 3-4 ft deep.
Put a frog into boiling water he jumps out. Put a frog into lukewarm water and heat it up, the frog stays in a boiles himself.

Wow!
As a kid I always wished for so much snow! Like, I used to dream of having snow tunnels going from the supermarket to home, and from home to school and such! That it would be so cool! and like we'd wear snow shoes and have awesome snowball fights on top of the tunnels!
But it never snowed that much!
