I beg to differ. In Lockon, at least when you increased throttle you knew you would gain speed. These shitty little sputtering WW2 planes however, they are subject to all sorts of counterintuitive stalling and whatnot I'm sure

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

yes, the flightmodel is much more complex with these with the engine torque and all
there's quite useful tutorials
i wouldn't try play it without a joystick
also a headgear for looking around would be good, but not necessary (i built myself one)
you can look around with the mouse but it's a bit klunky in the heat of battle

Unless your joystick has small joysticks on it Smile My X52 has loads and loads of buttons/joysticks/mouse/wheels to bind the keys to.

p.s..

If u cant get it to work

.go to start->run->regedit->hkey_local_machine->system->mounted_devices

3.find in here your daemon tools virtual drive(for me its \dosdevices\G: ) and rename it to

\dosdevices\G.h:

you can put any letter not only the "h"

4.run the game without any loader

5.have fun using old trick

Hello,

i can't find my daemon tools virtual drive in there. I use Daemon Tools 4.08HE and it also doesn't work with YASU 103.

If i try to start 1946 i get this Message:

http://www.imgnow.de/?img=Clipboard02afd01df2png.png

Could someone please help me

Hello, do you have some kind of instructions for that headgear how you made it?
I've been using cam2pan, but if something better solutions are, I'd be glad to hear.

Really? So I assume you learned to take off, and land on a carrier without breaking your gear off, but I would like to see you against a couple of veterans in a dogfight server, and then tell me how easy it is. Very Happy

To you or me this game might seem "easy", but when you compare it to any other game people play around here, that's is simply not true. A first time user, thats not all the familiar with the genre, will be lost at the button setup screen.

But then again, I never played on the "easy setting", always in cockpit, with no padlocks or any other artificial assists, so what do I know.

using cam2pan aswell (2.0.9) in flashlight mode
mounted an IR-led on the tip of my baseball cap
took the IR filter off my webcam and put a dozen layers of dark film over the webcam lens to block visible light
works surprisingly well
regular led in a darkened room should work ok aswell, but now i can have a lit room with the thing in use (if the room lights aren't too bright on the IR spectrum)

Well, if you're expecting to play any game (be that Counter-Strike or Tetris) from the get-go and get one over veterans then you're going to fall down pretty fast.

I mean it's intuitive. In the case of Il2 I wasn't disputing it's depth or complexities but getting rid of the idea it's a simulation for hardcore gamers with a steep learning curve. That's not the case at all, especially on the lower difficulty settings (of which there are many you can tweak). The game has a lot of depth and complexity but it isn't marred by an obtrusive and counter-productive interface or learning curve. It's newbie friendly basically.

yes I play only using a keyboard and mouse, but if you want to be a pro online you need a joystick. I just enjoy this on lan with my friends and some quick missions where I mess around.

Its fine to play with keyboard if you are only looking for fun, but if you are looking to kick ass you need a joystick.

You have to try it without joystick or gamepad, with an azerty keyboard not recognized by the game. Wink

After digging around for my old x36-joystick i decided to install IL2 yet again and since this was released there wasnt much to think about. But i ran into a problem.

For some reason i get the generic windows error when trying to start it.

I get it in swedish so not sure its a 100% translation but it reads something like this:

il2fb.exe has encountered an error and must be closed.

Then send error-report or close.

My specs are the following:
Windows XP SP2
64 X2 Dual Core 4200+
2GB PC6400 DDR2
Nvidia 8800 GTS (Forceware 97.02)
Soundblaster X-Fi

Any help appreciated.

Try to find a more detailed report of your error in windows' event viewer (administrative tools).

In case someone is having the same problem as i had then the reason it was fucked for me was that i had inactivated my DVD-drive. Worked without a prob after that.

Oh and Anthirs, SoW:BoB is scheduled for release in february.
