Sad isn't it, I thought the good ole US of A was founded on christian values and not on jewish ones? My kids are devestated cuz our mall sported a big tree every year as well and this year they'r not gonna put one up either. As a matter of fact all Christmas decorations have been taken down, only things you can still see are minor decorations you can buy(as long as they'r hidden from plain view)cuz they stuffed them all away to back of the store.

Not to piss the religious people off on this forum but: Christmas trees have nothing to do with any religion, christianity, muslim none! they are a symbol of regrowth and rebirth.. symbolising that spring that is just round the corner, now the days (after the winter equinox 21st dec) will get longer. Note its an evergreen tree, showing that life still hangs on despite it being the coldest, darkest time of the year
I did read somewhere when and where they were first introduced. I beleive it was in Germany in about the 14th century.. could be wrong.
But one thing i do know, if Jesus did exist he didnt have a fecking xmas tree in his manger - thats for sure! just another case of religious zealots panicking about paganism and trying to stamp out all symbolism of it - loonies
Why do certain people take offence at it? My son goes to a multi-cultural school and they celebrate all the religious festivals throughout the year - despite what religion they stem from. I go to his school play and theres loads of muslims, hindus, jewish parents there.. and none of them object to the tree and decos's. well ive never seen any of them thrashing about on the floor with bleeding eyes They enjoy the school play as much as anyone else.. all the kids take part in it..

yeah man thats true but for me it isn't all about spending money, don't you remember when you were a kid and when you just loved to see that big tree with all the shining lights, I can't build a tree like that in my house, I do enjoy the smaller things and for the big things I just went to the mall to check out the tree with my kids, thats gone now, they'r already nagging my head off to go see santa clause who allways sat at that tree, WTF do I say to them now. Santa ain't gonna visit our town anymore:( I'm not from Seattle but I see it happening all over the place, I thought well it'll just be for the bigger cities, but no the smaller cities are also taking an example.

I cant beleve that article. The rabbi wanted them to add a giant Jewish menorah, and was going to sue.
FFS, this is total BS. Now the rabbi is mad that they took it all down. WTF did he expect would happen. So we just add this jewish content, now we have to add muslum, now we have to add this, now we have to add that. The smart thing was to just take them down, rather than opening pandoras box.
If the rabbi hadnt been meddling, or trying to change things. We would still have our xmas trees, which are not IMO religous.

Well then I guess you don't watch Jay Leno, on it he often makes jokes about banning christmas, he may joke about it but its happening alright. Just do a search on google for "banning christmas" and you'll see what I mean. Starting slowly but in 3-4 years from now you won't see a single decoration anywhere in the US, they'r already banning it in several places in the UK as well. Ofcourse you can put stuff up yourself, but as far as companies and business go it will be banned slowly but steadily and I think this is just sick. Whats happening here, why do the jews in power find it so offensive(note that I say, jews in power cuz the people I know that are jewish also have no problem whatsoever seeing my small tree in my livingroom, let alone that they take offense from seeing a larger one in a shopping mall).

@willy, be careful, or you'll start to sound like this nutjob
Quote: | John Gibson, wrote a book entitled The War on Christmas: How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday Is Worse Than You Thought, which was published in October of 2005. Gibson and others claim the abolition of Christmas (War on Christmas) is part of a broader "culture war" waged by progressives. Bill O'Reilly claimed that "it's all part of the secular progressive agenda ... to get Christianity and spirituality and Judaism out of the public square." He also went on to say that this larger agenda includes "legalization of narcotics, euthanasia, abortion at will, gay marriage." |
I have no problem calling this period of time 'the holidays' as opposed to christmas, but this fucking rabbi needs to STFU and realize that trees aren't a religious symbol, especially in public spaces...

I'm not starting to sound like a nutjob, its already happening mate, it happened in my mall, they'r talking about it on the news, and from what I read its happening in other towns around the country as well so its not this single Rabbi or the single article I am referring to. That article was just for reference, but most other articles you find also make the reference of jews being offended by the symbolism and how Christmas doesn't reflect their own symbolism and thats why they should ban christmas symbols(hence the trees and santa and shit). I think its absolute baloney as well, for all I care they can put up their own symbols as much as they want, as long as we americans can put up our own shit as we have down for so many years now.
Ow and Bill O' Reilly is a certified nutjob, nothing short of going absolute bonkers, the sooner that retard is put into a white strapjacket the better, thrown into a dark dungeon to rot the better;)

That is true, North America and Europe were founded on Christian values. I always think about how different it would be for a Jewish person to grow up in Israel where Jewish values, traditions, and culture are a given.
The Lubavitch are super religious to the point where they can be quite rude, especially to those who aren’t Halakha Jewish. They are trouble makers like any other super religious group. It doesn’t sound like they had a problem with the trees rather they wanted the Hanukia added. It was the airport that decided to take down all religious signs.
Seriously the airport should of ignored them, gave them the run around, that whole game. Lubavitch would of looked like idiots if they tried to sue (I don’t remember reading that part)
When I was in elementary school we always did both, Christmas and Chanukah. Christmas concerts were always a mixture of Christmas songs and Chanukah songs (some in hebrew) and some German too. No body ever complained back then.
I think people should be able to decorate how they choose and for whatever holiday that is in season and other groups should just butt out.

It is a common myth that the United States was founded on Christian values. This is simply NOT SO. Christians themselves have tried to re-write history.
