So, first problem is if I have my external dvd burner plugged in, the computer wont boot. I don't even come further than the motherboard image, wich is before I have a chance to edit BIOS. Still, my hdd is before any cd rom in boot order, so thats not the problem anyway.
Second, I can't burn anything with it. Well, I haven't tried any cd-roms as i don't have any atm, but for dvds nothing happen when i start burning, I'm just stuck at 1 % without anything happening

I'm wondering, could this perhaps be a firmware problem? I've never installed any firmware to it. If it's not, does anyone know what it could be? If not, then it's not the biggest of my worries, as I've already planned to buy a new one, but of course, a solution without spening would be preffered Smile

model of dvd burner?

oh, and when you get a new one make sure to get an internal one + external case instead of buying it bundled.

if you get them seperately you will pay less $$$ for a higher quality dvd burner Wink

even the cheapest shitty ass external dvd burner costs the same as a pioneer (ie good) burner + case Wink

I should say that this is the case in Canuckistan, so maybe it may be different in the UK. Wink

here is a good example

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pioneer-DVR-110DBK-internal-Writer-Black/dp/B000BEY89Y/sr=1-19/qid=1164582383/ref=sr_1_19/202-9111623-9262269?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

http://www.amazon.co.uk/External-Writer-Pioneer-DVR-111D-USB2-0/dp/B000HXDK8Y/sr=1-18/qid=1164582383/ref=sr_1_18/202-9111623-9262269?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

under 30 pounds for the burner, and 60 pounds for the burner + case ... so here the case costs more than the burner Smile

Friend's pc had a similar problem once and it turned out that the dvd burner and the dvd-rom both had the jumper at the master position. Changed the dvd-rom to slave and they both lived happily ever after. Very Happy
