...is a SAT II test subject. I mean, fuck, is that wrong or what? If you're Jewish, you get an advantage over other kids just because of your religion and upbrining. Fucking country full of hypocrits. Freedom and equality my ass Mad

I don't get this thread?

@tainted
You have to learn some? They can't be expecting that much? It is really hard. And then there are these dot things. The average non religious jewish person in the states and Canada don't speak, read or right hebrew. They just recognise it.

I only know the words on the dradle.

SAT = exam you take for college
SAT II = subject specific exam you take for college.

Subjects are World History, US History, Math etc... everything they teach you in school except languages, because they give peopele that speak it an unfair advantage. The more SAT's you take, and the better score you get on them, he better chance you have of getting into the college of your choice.

Now, all the Jewish kids have a huge advantage over others, because they can take one more SAT subject test, and get a really good score on it, and increase their chances of getting into a nice College.

Fucking unfair if you ask me Mad

@tainted?
I am still unclear? Why can Jewish kids take more sat subject test? I don't understand where being Jewish fits into it.

Because Jewish kids know Hebrew. Other kids don't. Therefore, Jewish kids can take the SAT subject test in Hebrew, and have one more test with a good score to present to colleges.

Is the test offered in different languages as well?

Seriously tho, Hebrew is a hard language to learn and they must of gave up a lot of Sat's learning it if they live in the states. I think very few Jewish students could take that test.

The older people who I know who write/read it even have a hard time reading the modern stuff.

Canada has 2 langauges. English and French. Here a lot of the good government jobs go to those who are fluent in French first. It work out well if you are from Quebec but not so good for the rest of us. Having a second langauge is huge here. They are worth extra credit in school I think.

I've met a lot of Jews from the states and Canada, and their Hebrew sucked.
If you live out of Israel and you are not conservative, or never been to Israel, you probably don't know Hebrew very well.

Languages

* Chinese with Listening
* French
* French with Listening
* German
* German with Listening
* Spanish
* Spanish with Listening
* Modern Hebrew
* Italian
* Latin
* Japanese with Listening
* Korean with Listening

All of those except Modern Hebrew are taught in public schools, so I have no beef with them being on the test, since we were taught that in school. Only Modern Hebrew is not taught in schools, so whats the point of putting it on the SAT's then? The SAT's are supposed to test our knowledge of the criteria taught in schools Mad

X_Dror: The language portion for all languages on the SAT's is very simple, its almost a joke. They ask you for stuff like, "red, "car", "house, "wall" etc...

It sounds like you think either Modern Hebrew should not be on the test or Modern Hebrew should be taught in school.

It probably comes down to money like everything else in life. It would cost money to get the program up and running and how many students would even choose to take the classes.

I would also be surprised to find that list of languages available to all students equally. Smaller school certainly can’t accommodate that. You have to find people to teach them

If you feel it is really unfair then I think you should challenge it. Find out who is in charge and question it. See their reasoning behind it.

I don't think this hebrew test makes a big difference, maybe you're not so confident about yourself so you just found something to blame.

The viewpoint I have and you're talking to a professional in the education business, is if it's not taught in school, it shouldn't be tested. As it gives an advantage over other students who's tongue isn't normally spoken.

I think that this languages thing is made for foreign students, to give them a better chance.
Because you don't need any other language other than english in order to study at a high education facility in the US. In Israel you need only speak hebrew and english at a certain level, you must take english courses if your level isn't good enough.
