Well lets see..
1) Valve will make money from everyone else (which is good) like the movie business makes money from teens on mostly crap movies but myself and my colleagues won't buy any of it. They'll always be more people buying then getting it in another manner. HL2 is worth purchasing (screenies and teasers looked nice) but then again it holds true: once u get free, ya never go back!
2) They'll be cracked servers just like DOOM3, UT2004, etc etc.. Its HL2 after all! ITS MORE HYPED THEN THE SECOND COMING FOR PETE'S SAKE! Everyone and their left testicle wants it and thus the community will get out NoCDs, Private Server Cracks, blah blah blah x 50! Its all a balance!
If one of my friends buys it like one did for UT2004 then thats cool. It all balances itself out. Some will buy, others will not but get it anyway.. Cheques and Balances.

Dude you'll never find a valid HL2 cd-key, not only that you'll have to go thru steam authorization + and if it spots a duplicate it will ban both of you for good, so now unless you buy a valid copy/or got a voucher you wont be able to play online.
Anyways, I got the unscratched ATI HL2 coupon for 5 bucks off ebay, free 2nd day shipping, good shit.

I must stress Im only buying it so I'll be able to play online. In my mind Valve has fucked up too much to be taken seriousely.

I think the multiplayer is the only thing poeple care about to buy HL2 for, without the multiplayer I wouldnt be even thinking about buying it.

I'm buying it.......FOR THE SINGLEPLAYER!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHA Multiplayer is just an added bonus.
It's the sequel to my favorite game of all time so of course I'll buy it. With or without multiplayer.

Yeah, the multiplayer aspect is a must. Unlike with Doom 3.
CS:S is actually far better then normal CS, for many reasons. It just feels better. Although i'm waiting for DoD source.

CS:S is not that much different from CS 1.5 (but including the Galil/Famas), if you consider CS 1.5 the best game ever, then I guess CS:S is the best game ever for you.
But for me, CS:S is no where NEAR the best multiplayer game ever...
