Actually your claim was that he couldn't even update it if he didn't have a clone. its quite clear you're referring to the complete inability to update as made by your statement: lol that wasnt my point. point is the "original" exe isnt cloned so it wont work. thats what clones are for
The original exe isn't cloned in the cloning process. The disk is. the exe is the same either way and he can update either. Whether or not a group has has cracked the update is beside the point. The update itself will install without issue, you were clearly saying it wouldn't even install.
