@chinup
The water was really cold for swimming. It hurt people's feet it was so cold. I got in to catch some crab and got wet but it really wasn't swimming. My feet didn't leave the ground. The cold doesn't bother me as much as other people. All my fat must be in the right places I guess. I was in there for about 20 min. I kept catching the same goddamn crab. He had no pincher arms. He was armless. So I would throw he on the other side of the beach. Then a hr later I would catch him again.

We had 2 wet suits with us but didn't use them.

We had crab olympics. The catagories were: The Crab Race, Strength of Claw, and Crab Sumo wresling. There was no prize at the end. Only a a axe and a pot of boiling water.

I found an antler. That was pretty exciting. Had a black bear walk right by me while I was reading a book. He looked right at me and started digging in the seaweed. Then he wondered away. If he wanted to, he could of had me before I even had a chance to stand up.

That water was so clear I could see maybe 12-15 ft down when the sun was on the right angle. Some beaches out there are covered with eel grass and that stuff stinks to high hell. On the West coast I have seen eel grass piles so high it's like bails of hay.

Deelix you need a holiday too.

mm it only seems that cold in the beginning .. what were you catching crabs with .. your hands or bait ? Haven’t had fresh crab for ages .. used to catch them by the bushel when I lived on the Chesapeake ..

Its a fine thing to look a truly wild animal in the eye .. a connection with a life that remains free of laws & fences .. What was it the Eagles wrote .. “every form of refuge has its price” .. well not being able to access the wild is a high price I pay indeed .. but hay .. folks like you share your times so it aint all bad ..

Did you bring the antler back or leave it behind ? Did you see any raven .. I miss them very much ..

I have a bait box and it had a bunch of slip knots. I had another trap that closed up on them like a clam but I forgot that one at the first camp site. It is not the kind of trap where once they are in they are stuck. Those are too big to bring. I am sure I could make one tho, really light and collapsable. I was using the bait box in the deep sections but if I found one where I could reach it I would use my hands. I didn’t have any butter but I made a oil and garlic dip that was just as good I thought. I only eat them fresh but I don’t buy them.
My favourite seafood is Atlantic lobster but I won’t eat them. Lobsters are very sensitive animals and they mate for life. So if you eat one then its lobster lover is all alone.

Ya I took the antler home. It is really good. Perfect for carving. I can tell various minks have been chewing it. Some bites are old and some are new. I also have a elephant seal skull, seal ribs, lots of deer sculls including a fawn, a beaver skull. I have a black bear skull in perfect condition. Tons of Eagle feathers (Non-native people are not allowed to have those in their possession.

I have a huge (might be elk skull) with antlers rack. My cousin found that one while it still had the meat on it (like the eyeballs) I was living with him at the time. I came home and found it sitting in my kitchen sink with some bleach. Maggots were crawling up my wall and the stench was unbelievable. First and last time I ever yelled at him. I told him to bury it. That night I am in bed and I can smell it. I look out my bedroom window and there are the antlers sticking outta the ground right underneath my window. Later on that fucking thing fell off the wall and landed teeth first on his head. It looked like he got bit by an elk.

What is your coast line like? Any rough stuff out your way? I heard there are foxes running around the cities in the UK. That sounds pretty cool.

I tried while I was out there. My pen wouldn't work. I did everything to make this pen work. I headed it up under a lighter, did the shaky shaky thing. Nothing. ...and besides chin-up was asking.

I remember writing with burnt sticks once .. bit messy but fun sharpening it .. lol .. ya there is something very wrong about ball point pens in the sticks .. like oil & water they just don’t mix too well ..

Why didn’t you just boil the elk head .. kill the stink & give you a good foundation for keeping the skull .. didn’t sound like he had much of an idea about how to bury things ..

black bear skull sound cool .. I would go sit with that when i wanted to figure out what I was forgetting to think about .. if that makes any sense to you @ all .. rofl .

eagle feathers are alright .. I just cant help thinking about the fact that eagles used to prey on people .. seems a little backward to revere an animal that eats you .. that’s the kind of native thinking I don’t dig personally .. like south pacific islanders revering volcanoes because they kill there people & recon they need to prey to it & offer up sacrifices to way lay its wrath .. fear mentalities IMO ..

Ya fox do wander around here .. when I see them its usually early morning & they never look like they are very healthy & eat to good .. too much junk food from skips & bins .. lazy animals .. so many pheasant & rabbit around .. but they just rob bins because its easier ..

If I had an antler handy right now myself .. I would make a pipe bole from it .. horn is excellent for smoking tools because it doesn’t get hot too fast .. & looses the heat fast .. so you get the most out of what you put in the bowl ..

no word on ravens .. one of the reasons I admire raves so is because they kick eagle tale .. every time I saw an eagle with a catch in its claws, I saw ravens or crows robbing it from the eagle .. eagles are all looks & no backbone in my eyes .. could be because I’m crow medicine .. eagles just seem to flashy & big to be practical ..

Crows & ravens are more sensible .. kill & scavenge .. not to picky .. so they thrive .. in any environment .. eagles may become extinct one day .. ravens & crow will never even come close ..
