Here is a picture of Vancouver Island North.

I leave tomorrow morning for my trip. 10 days to 2 weeks. I will be inside Queen Charlotte Strait mainly around Broughton Islands. The mainland is where they do all the grizzly tours so I am hoping the bears will stay off the islands but sometimes they don’t. They are good little swimmers. Black bears

This area is famous for Orcas. Telegraph cove is where I believe “Spong” who is Paul Watsons partner of Green Peace, has set up a Orca observatory with underwater cams and mikes. I haven’t been to the site this year but I am sure it is still up.

We are talking a water taxi out so we can take lots of wine and water. The water taxi guy told it is a heavy crabbing area. I plan on eating crab every night. Throw on some flippers and a mask and you swim down and pick them up and stick them in a net. Lots of sea lions too. The Coho salmon are running so I am sure we will have salmon too.



This is a picture of a friend in a cabin at 100 mile house. I think that old stove is really cool, the place is unfinished but it is cool.

I will see them for sure. We are camping on one of their rubbing beaches. I am taking a water proof canon camera, my friend is taking her small digital one. Hopefully she will be getting a few good shots

I am back from my trip. Here are some pictures but it's not digital, only a waterproof camera and not too great.

This is a picture of all the shit I have to load the boat with. The dog likes to lie down in the middle of the pile.



This is a picture of Telegraph Cove. This is the area where the majority of the whale watching tours & water taxi’s are run out of.


This is a picture of our gear on the dock waiting for the water taxi.


Greatest water taxi ever. Young guys who weren’t in a hurry to drop us off. We saw about 4 orcas swimming in circles. We call it the spiral of death (feeding thing). We also saw a pod of dolphins - Dahl’s porpoise. We also saw a Elephant seal. We hung out there for quite a while. Very rare for a water taxi. We were not close enough for good pictures so I didn’t bother.
The water taxi cost was $550 but I talked them down to $500. We tipped them $20 but I don’t think that is the norm. They even helped us load the gear. Broke a strap on the boat tho.

We Got dropped off at the Burdwood Islands. Here is a picture of our beach. It was a Peninsula so we had 2 beaches on either side. Morning we sat at one beach and sunset at the other. We followed the sun. The water was really clear.

Picture of low tide from the North side of our beach. We had Humpback Whales (about 4 of them) at 8-9pm feeding back and forth, just past the big island. They even breached a few times. We had dolphins all the time, maybe 100 meters from our shore. Dahls porpoise and Pacific White side. The Pacific White sides are more playful and they are bigger.

Picture of our camp. There is another tent behind the tarps. The Yellow one is mine.

The first morning I woke up to things dropping on my tent at 5:30 am. I knew it couldn’t be a bear. I stuck my head out and got hit in the head with a green pine cone. A fucking squirrel was pegging my tent with pine cones. Never happened before. He must of hit the tent 20 times. Then at 7am, the King Fisher birds started fighting. They are territorial so they drive off their young at this time of year. Holy shit are they loud. FUCKING LOUD!!! I found an inner tube washed up on the shore. I actually contemplated building a sling shot and taking them out. But of course I did not. I am just the interloper.

Super calm water in the morning. Water like glass. Hardly any beach at all. Mostly steep rock. No spots where you can land without boat damage. (lens smear)



Pierre's Bay. A Resort dock that has a bakery and a dinner. Really nice people run it.


The next morning a small 2 people plane landed at our beach. It was a couple. The women kayaked around the area about 10 yrs ago and the guy was flying her around to all the places she camped at. (Husband) I thought that was really cool.


The next morning/afternoon we went into echo bay
We saw the Bead Lady at Windsong.


I bought a bracelet but I broke it. I stuck it in my deck bag and the string broke. I have the pieces so I can put it back together again. (bit of a local, nice person, ecologically friendly)

We moved on to Insect Island Next.
