Anyone know of a nice looking Space Sim ALA freelancer with maybe some better gameplay and more customization to the ships?

Starlancer, is a space combat sim. It looks more like X wing then freelancer.
You may try of course the legendary Elite, X2,X:beyond the frontier was a good game.
Or, if you want to risk it, you may try the new game Starshatter, but I didn't hear anything good about it.

try X-beyond the frontier or X2-the treath

Much better than Freelancer but you'll need more time

there is no space sim with controls like the ones freelancer uses.
Starlancer was an awesome game though, great fun and great single player campaign with cool stuff happening all the time.
It doesnt look too bad so the old graphics don't really kill the gameplay in this case.

I just want another multiplayer one where I can play privately with friends. Freelancer was good for this.

Those other games seem nice, but lack of MP turns me off.

Any good MP ones out there? Minus Starshatter, I didn't like that one. Razz

Definately X2. Far more complex than freelancer, better graphics and much bigger.

You can build up your own army, with destroyers, and even build your own bases and industries etc. And the game gives you complete freedom.

you may even fly destroyers if you like. you can then carry a whole fleet of smaller ships in there belly, you can steer whichever you like, use all the turrets, and ships have hundreds and hundreds upgrades available. There even an economic system implented where you can trade an prices for stuff is calculated in real timeaccording to economic rules.

etc etc etc. Huge game, maybe you'd better call it a simulation than a game.

But as said, takes quite some time due to its complexity.

EVE Online. Although I don't actually play it, I've seens my friends turn zombie like for months playing this game, being so addictive I guess. It's a massive multiplayer space simulation and has a very large community. But it is online only, and then there's the monthly fee.

Iwar-2 Owns them all sorry to say, sure x2 has alot of complexities with base building and all but it falls short of feeling like soemthing special,.

Iwar2 is old but still feels and looks good. There are many mods for it now as well.

X2 is worth a shot tho, but I suggest turning off shadows as its a hog even on high-end pc setups.

Iwar2 doesn't use jumpgates like they were given out like coton candy or party baloons, and its space flight system and physics are great,.

If you have seen babylon 5 thats how iwar2 physics work. (realistic) shame there is no iwar3 Sad

Forgot to mention, Iwar2 has MP even COOP mods around I hear,. http://www.i-war2.com/downloads.htm has some info, but you will need to goto the forums and read a bit, there is babylon 5 mod/ starwars mod etc etc,..

All have coop planed if not already released. You can have bots in MP if you can't find any coop missions anyway.

I bought X2, it's boring as hell in my opinion. It takes so long to set up any kind of mining operation, and it seems they made it complex for the sake of it, or they're lazy.
