The game is very much a Gothic like game a probably the most non-PB game that feels like that. It launches in 2 weeks and they have a Demo out on Steam. Played the demo for a few hours and loved it. Worth taking a look for any Gothic fans out there.

Of Ash and Steel is an immersive third-person open-world RPG created by a passionate team that values the essence of classic old-school RPGs and modern designs. Explore the lands of a once-prosperous island, hone your combat skills, and survive in the unforgiving realm of the Kingdom of the Seven.
Release? Today it means nothing, if it means "release in early access" (so early alpha, play the game to report bugs for free) or a more finished release.
The demo is fine. Prologue at the beach felt a bit more like an adventure game than an RPG(give X to Y, Y gives you Z and a hint for another npc), but it was pretty fun.
The forest after the prologue has a lot of stuff to do, but I stopped playing since saves from the demo will be incompatible with the full version. Combat seems weak, but it's probably like Gothic, you get better when you unlock tresholds.
They did go a bit overboard with intro cinematics though
For now it's probably best to wait for patches apparently. There's some issues with quest items (and items in general) disappearing and dialogues not triggering.
Seems rough, but could be decent after patches maybe. Too bad they didn't have at least one artist which was really good at something, then it could have stood out a bit. Everything just looks so generic or rough, which is not what you want for atmosphere.
The faces reminds me of someone who's just started drawing and he's learned the very basics of how to do it. Ultra rough. I think in a way we can be thankful games like gothic had less polygons to work with because we expect it to look square etc, it becomes a style in its own. Here, not so much.
I saw an instagram video showing how they even left in a retake that the voice actor is doing, they forgot to cut it, so midway he's like "oh shit, i'll try again" and does another take Not great to leave in perhaps lol
It seems game is in a poor state and some cannot even finish it due to game braking bugs. The guy above is an example. He usually rather praise every game but in this case he suggest to wait until it is patched.
Yeah, I already started playing last friday thinking it cant be that bad, and they already did a 1.04 path as well. Boy, it is worse than I thought. A lot of bugs and just some thinks that do not work.
Inventory has a nasty bug where items disappear and get duplicated, aiming with the crossbows does not work, a couple of quest bugs and/or missing quest items... to top it off, the devs have postponed the 1.05 patch that should fix some of those things, because that patch will corrupt save games... to top it off the Steam community forum is full of russian spam so good luck getting useful info from there...
It does feel like a spiritual successor to Gothic, but with the amount of bugs and jank i would not recommend anyone play this right now.
