The problem with that one was the OS. But they have proven with the steam deck that these issues are solved. If they can sell this for under 600 eurodollars it could work as a budget option.

This definitely needs to be cheaper than a PS5 to succeed.

I don't think so. Steam is so much cheaper then ps5 and it has way more titles. If you are on a budget this is the better option. PS5 only offers the exclusives but for the rest it's an inferior product. 600-700 euro isn't bad for a budget gaming PC.

The new steam controller might be the first controller I owned outside of the ones that came with the consoles I bought to play Bloodborne and GoW2.

I'm actually pretty excited for it. I liked Steam Deck's incorporated controller.

Half-Life 3 would absolutely sell Steam machines Very Happy

https://wccftech.com/half-life-3-hopes-reignited-insiders-suggest-its-announcement-is-still-coming/

Quote:
Insider Gaming founder and renowned leaker Tom Henderson added that he heard there's a big (currently unannounced) game coming in March. With the Steam Machine/Frame/Controller scheduled to launch in early 2026, it makes sense that Half-Life 3 would be a launch title, especially for the new Steam Machine.

May the NFOrce be with you always.

How would you keep such a title exclusive to the steam machine though?
Best/worst they could do is making only a native linux version without having a windows version.
Still wouldnt make it completly exclusive.

They would not in a million years make it exclusive to the Steam Machine.

However they would not in a million years make HL3 anyway. I do truly hope I am wrong though.

From that quote alone its not exactly what it's saying. It says it'll launch alongside the console and maybe be specially optimized for it.

But half life 3 aint coming and i dont believe that it is before any proof is presented

Either way, I'd really love to hear someday what really happened behind the scenes at Valve. They had a great engine, great dev teams, then sometime around Left for Dead 2, they simply stopped making games. Yeah, they launched hardware segment, and they had a store to run that was reaping big cash, but certainly not everyone that was behind Half Life franchise, and Portal games just stopped everything and went designing steam store stickers.

There is that documentary, but honestly, i dont buy it. I feel they're just making excuses. Personally i think it was a gold rush at valve and they stopped making effort ... which also is weird since they developed other games since.

why develop i novative good that might mame some money ic you can copypaste other games ans print money. Reworking cs all the time, dota 2 content updates until it wasnt worth it anymore and that card game that tried to do the same as hearthstone.

they only want games that print money or promote their hw.
at least until now..

In 8 hours begins that "conspicuous gap in the official Steam schedule between November 18 and December 8" that some had a lot of hopium for a Half-Life 3 announcement

Probably just a broader announcement of the new steam hardware, maybe even pre-orders

HL3 would make sense, imagine the extra exposure, not that it lacks it but it would pump it up some more..

When I said I’m disappointed it isn’t going to follow a console pricing model, where its subsided by the fact that manufacturer is going to be taking 30% of every game sold on it over the lifespan of this thing, because I feel that would be a more meaningful product, they asked what I meant by console price and I said $500. Nobody said anything, but the energy in the room wasn’t great.”

It's probably going to be 650-700. The top Steam Deck is 680euro.
